Yeah. I just re subbed to EQ1 a few months ago after realizing how shitty WoW, AoC, and all the latest games were. I'm like: The last game that was truly fun was EQ1, I might as well put my money there and let the industry know that I support those types of games. I still have more fun in EQ1 today than I did in any of the latest games.

I just wish there were more players, as the player base has taken a nose dive, and a nice update on the engine would be good too. Otherwise the game is still pretty solid game play wise.

I have no interest in the latest expansion tho. It gives you mercenaries which is a tank or healer NPC bot that you can purchase. But that just means more people playing solo.

I haven't really looked into it yet, but do the recent EQ1 expansions follow the same model as the EQ2 expansions? That is, All-in-one packs, the most recent expansion includes the base game plus all previous expansions, adventure packs, and content.

I might have to break out my accts and start playing again. Im always a sucker for new expansions. They have been releasing the all-in-one format a while now. I think the All-in-one pack is a good idea cuz that way, if I come back after a 2 yr break, i dont have to buy each expansion that i missed separately, just one all-in-one price. This is really nice if you have multiple accts, like i do. Saves a ton of money getting all the accts current.

People still play EQ1?!?

I remember friends playing back when I was in college -- over ten years ago! Wowsers, talk about staying power...

Nevermind, I looked it up. Max level is 80 and moving to 85 with the new expansion. I am almost tempted to resub just to hit the level cap of 85 and go Solo Chardok just for kicks. Whenever I think of EQ my first memories are always of the all night corpse runs in Chardok (that was Old School EQ when the max level was 50).

Average guilds must be able to beat the Plane of Time now, or will be able to after the level increase. There must be like, 2,000 AA's by now. AA's are the main reason I wouldn't resub to EQ; in order to be competitive you have to be leveling non-stop, all the time, cause there is never any end to the AA's.

I wonder if the Old World (Pre-Luclin) is completely vacant and unused now?

I wonder if they have fixed Monks after the catastrophic class destroying nerf?

What is the subscription fee for EQ1? Dare I assume that it's significantly cheaper than WoW or EVE Online, since it's ancient?

Launch Highlights

To my knowledge, EQ1 is still 15/month. They really should slash that to 10 or even 5. I wouldn't make it free because that would destroy whatever is left of the community by attracting the lowest of the low.

Damn. I knew it was still up but didn't think they still had teams dedicated to putting out new expansions for it :Q

I just resubbed a month or two ago. They removed the nerf to Monks FYI. Monks are one of the most highly played classes today. Most people box a monk + healer (mostly a shaman) these days. Monks have had their avoidance increased, get tripple attack, get quad attack with AA's with 2 handers, among other things.

Yes, pre luclin is mostly empty now, even PoP is mostly unused. I can go to Plane of Nightmare or Bastion of Thunder (popular zones in the past) and they will be empty. I think GoD is empty too.

I don't think you start seeing people in zones until iabout the Omens of War era. Wall of Slaughter may have about 5+ people in it at any given point. Thats where it starts to pick up. But I'm lvl 65 so I haven't gone to the newer locations much yet.

Are the graphics still as bad as they were 10 years ago? Or has it gotten a facelift?

So you can play through like 2/3 of the content without seeing another human? That's a downer...

Actually I'd say they look worst now because we've seen all the new games. The pictures I saw looked terrible, it was amusing... (and super nostalgic too). Assuming they don't delete toons, I should still have a paladin on Firiona Vie, but I don't think I'll return, I will stick with Eq2.

For the lack of people, you can now hire mercs so folks can basically solo as long as they can pay off their merc.

Yes.

Some of the newer expansions use some pixel shaders and effects, but I wouldn't call it very good, and its basically pixel shader 1.1-1.4 quality, much like the water in Morrowind, and its only used to reflect light a bit better or the sky on water, but no shadows, HDR, etc.

They've upgraded the textures twice though. One with Shadows of Luclin expansion and another recently but its not much better than it was before. They've also increased the draw distance so there is less fog. So you can say theres been tweaks but no overhaul. Which is a shame. I wish they upgraded to use the EQ2 client but use the EQ1 zones and gameplay.
