The Via processor is about half the speed of an intel or AMD but should be OK for light use.

I'm worried about only a 3-month warranty and +$116 to add a year. You really need a warranty for laptops since you can't fix most parts yourself.

512MB RAM is a bit low for Vista.

I'd consider getting a $450-499 brand new laptop with 1-year warranty, 1GB RAM, and intel or AMD CPU instead.

Walmart has a newer version of the Everex with 1GB RAM and 1 year warranty for $498, but the customer reviews aren't very positive:
