Since I used NiMH batteries now, I don't ever get NiCads. Still, this is a good price. Can anyone tell me if my charger for NiMH batteries (mine is the Quest charger from a deal posted months ago) will also charge NiCads? Might pick some of these up as backups for when the wife loses more of my good batteries.

The NiCADs work well in personal CD players that have built-in chargers. Some of the newer players might feature a built-in charger for NiMH batteries, but most of them charge only NiCAD batteries. Thanks for posting this deal.

RagManX: It depends on how the charger is designed. If it's slow and takes overnight to fully charge the cells, then it will work, but you may have to wait longer for full charge because most NiMHs have higher capacities, as much as 2-3 times that of nicads (1200-1500 mA-H verses 500-1000 for nicads). A fast charger for nicads may overcharge NiMHs because NiMHs don't heat up as quickly, and when they reach full charge their voltage doesn't drop the way nicad voltage does.

Temperature isn't a bad way to detect full charge, and if cells feel warm, they're about charged.

From my past experience with Everedy NiCD that I bought from Fry's........defitely not worth any pennies.

It died just only after 10-12 charges, I mean...it just couldn't hold its electricity so well that even after fully charged.

I now am happy with NiMH, they are much much better even at $2.40 a piece (MAHA).

RagManX: if you plan to use NiCD as a backup......reconsider since NiCD won't hold power for long if you don't use it right after it's fully charged.

Really? Anyone know where to find out about how quickly the charge on a NiCd drains, vs a NiMH? Any general battery resource sites out there(instead of battery sales sites)? PM me if you have one.

It's actually the opposite way around - nicads discharge slower in storage than NiMHs do, about 1-2% per day verses 3% a day for NiMHs. NiMH capacity is higher mostly because manufacturers are investing in them and not older nicad technology.
