Electricity flows at 60Hz.
1 hour equals 60 minutes, equals 60 seconds
TV 60Hz, 60fps
3dfx - best frame rate is 60fps

Why, where do we get these numbers, anyone know. What is it with this 60 thing.

Because the Babylonians used a sexagesimal number system. Well, that explains the 60 seconds, minutes, etc.

I heard this is where we get our degrees of an angle, too. Is this true?

Yes, that is true as well. A degree can be further broken down to 60 arcminutes, and then to 60 arcseconds; all are derived from the sexagesimal number system (the first place-value system as well I believe).

60 is a very convenient number, it's evenly divisible by 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 12, 15, 20, and 30.

Viper GTS

How exactly does that make it convenient?

I think 60 is convenient because it's 1 less than 61, and 2 less than 62. 😕
