ever witness someone drowning?

they can't say "help". i always thought they could yell out, but water is just filling their throats, their lungs and they can't speak.
i witnessed a 3 y/o this weekend jump into a pool and immediately start sinking. it was so quiet, if i hadn't seen him he could've drowned so fast. little guy thought he had his "floaties" on, and just jumped right in.

I was right next to my baby brother... I was 9 and he was 1. He was in one of those floating seat things and managed to flip it over. I didn't even notice because he was silent. A guy sitting next to the pool in my apartments jumped in and rescued him.

Freaked me out.

Now, when I take my own kids swimming my eyes NEVER leave them.

The idea is usually you can 'Yell help I can't swim"....then you start to drown.

I usually hear "help you're drowning me".

12 yrs old, jumped into deep end of my friend's pool. I tried to jump up and grab his floating sharkfloat but she was riding on it and kicked me off... Needless to say I was panicking and gulping water for dear life, but I remembered that I could walk to the shallow..... I got lucky

I almost drowned when I was a kid, luckily my brother was there and saved me. At first he thought I was just playing.

me, when i was little; misjudged the water depth. yea, i couldn't say anything because i was keeping whatever air i had left in my mouth. good thing someone saw me and quickly got me out before i ran out of air

my cousin who was about 15 at the time didn't know better and went off a diving board expecting the water to be the same depth as everywhere else in the pool. He obviously didn't think it through. Well he managed to jump from the bottom to the top twice before he could no longer do it. Lifeguards jumped in after him and saved him. Right after that he was all smiles saying how he didn't expect it to be deeper... and acted as if nothing had happened. Heh... duh.

I was about ten, my sister was about seven. We were at her friend's pool having fun, and somehow she ended up in the deep part. She yelled, and I jumped in after her. She got clingy and about took us both down. Finally her friend's older brother came and helped us out.

Everyone I knew always kn ew how to swim since they were four or five years old. I think it's kind of dangerous not to teachyour kids how to swim.

I almost drowned once.

I was about 7 or 8 years old (11-12 yrs ago), and my family went to Hershey park (and got drenched on the river raft ride... 😀)

Anyways, we were at the pool in the hotel, I hadn't learned howto swim yet (grew up in NY, never went swimming in anything deeper than 2 feet). So I was going around the pool, holding onto the edge, but staying close to the shallow end and I slipped away and couldn't reach the edge anymore. After flailing around for about 20 seconds and swallowing a bunch of water, I was close enough to the edge to reach it.

And the whole time, this older kid was standing there watching me. He told me he thought I was playing around. :frown:

A friend and I watched 3 drunk teens try to swim out to a small sand bar in a lake.

One of them made it less than half the distance and got into trouble, his buddies didn't notice since he was loosing the race.

I jumped in and got to him and his friends came back and helped me bring him back to shore. While a 5th kid ran to get help.

The fire department and EMT showed up and brought him to the hospital. As far as I know he was ok
