Personally I wish I was a dog, or some other simple animal for several reasons. The main reason is how easy they have it, I mean what do they have to worry about? They do not have to put up with politics, igornant people, stupid laws and they don't have to worry about what is going to happen when they die. They don't have to worry about morals, about what other people think of them and the list goes on and on.

Anyone else ever feel this way?

eh, i don't think of it so much as an issue of intelligence but way of life. if you really wanted to live like a dog, you could. and they have to worry about being spayed and neutered :D

Sometimes, but then for the most part (if I retained any sense of what it was to be human) I wouldn't really want to have to rely so heavily on a human for my life sustenance, also I'd miss having hands.

If you were intelligent enough you wouldnt let this stuff get to you. Or just take a Prozac.

I'd much rather worry about that, then worrying about how to get that taste out of my mouth after I've finished licking myself :disgust:

The problem is high intelligence does not ensure emotional stability. You cannot be smart enough to control your own brain chemistry (without the help of drugs), it just doesn't work that way. So no matter how smart you are, if you aren't emotionally stable, you're going to be miserable. The difference here is the smart person KNOWS why they're miserable. The dumb person just blames it on superstition or some unlucky minority.

And Prozac has too many negative side effects. What's the use of being blissfull if your dongle can't rise to the occasion?

FelixDeKat: that is not how it works buddy. ever read the book "how a motorcycle works"? ( i believe that is the name, may be off a little ). but this is how it goes.

it is a true story about a genius who graduated HS by like 14 or something crazy like that. he went into college and became "stuck" in his own intellectual prison eventually driving himself insane.

I dont think it would be any fun to be a dog because then you are a slave, now why would that be any fun. I might want to be an egal or something, I think that would be fun.

I hope if dogs ever take over the world, and they chose a king, they don't
just go by size, because I bet there are some Chihuahuas with some good
ideas.

Cattlegod -

I was speaking of average intelligence. I think this is more of a chemical imbalance issue.

While prozac and its relatives do have side effects, they are considered safe and effective for the occasional treatment of chemical imbalances.

I didnt read the book you are referring to, but it does sound rather interesting. I would love to be a true 'genius'. Then I could figure out a way to implement some of my mad ideas. You rarely hear much about them after they reach puberty. Is that because they simply lose their notoriety or does MENSA aid some sort of grandiose scheme?

HA! The doctors never consider a limp dongle to be a serious side effect.

What makes you think any of the above are side-effects of intelligent life? Perhaps the converse is true.

<< and they don't have to worry about what is going to happen when they die >>

And we know this for sure? Just because we have to create fantasies of life after death, develop a superiority complex over all other life, and live life in fear of an enigmatic entity's judgement doesn't necessarily mean all other life does.

Amused one, I think what Cattlegod is saying is that the more intelligent you are, the more reasons you will have to be depressed. Recognizing the reasons certain things happen (usually because one stupid person makes a bad decision and other stupid people follow along saying, "Boy, that's a great decision." Then when the decision doesn't work out, they ALL blame something else) doesn't make it any better.
How many times have you seen an employee that doesn't know jack diddly about their job get promoted cause they smooched butt. That person has screwed up again and again, and still they are the greatest thing since sliced bread. The intelligent person realizes this person is a waste of space, yet management doesn't see it. You say to yourself, "Am I the only one to see that this person is worthless?"
Well, the answer is YES. Which is why some intelligent people are also some very depressed people.
Oh, to be fat, dumb and happy.

Neko, and I'm saying that REAL depression has FAR more to do with brain chemistry than with knowledge. Sure, you can be occasionally bummed and jaded by certain things in life, but that's not depression. If these things bum you out, and you can't get over them, that is depression and it has less to do with knowing about those things, and more to do with your brain's inability to deal with emotional problems.

Nothing is for sure. everything we know, we have only observed through our 5 senses. but you show me a dog that sits down and thinks " i wonder what is going to happen when i die" and i will show you a pig that can fly.

I just wish I was more smarter. :)

I have friends that know/understand things that I only wish I had the time to learn/understand.

Although, they are 3-5 years older than me. Maybe I'll get there by that time. :)

Cattlegod:

is the book you are talking about "Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintainence"? If so, I don't know if I would agree with your synopsis of it-the author successfully dealt with his own mental illness by backing away from his high pressure/intellectual lifestyle.
