Woah, that IS pretty cool!

I just wonder if VR is bad for the eyes for extended use though. They say it's not good to look at something close for too long, and VR is like basically starting at your hand 2 inches from your eyes non stop. Wonder if there are studies on this.

Personally I'd like an AR desktop, or perhaps a regular desktop supplemented by AR, now that would be cool

I've wondered this too. I have a Gear VR & it's VERY easy to get lost in it for hours, but you do tend to get eye fatigue (although I think that's from the lack of resolution, especially when watching movies). My default demo game is Adventure Time (perfect example of how VR can benefit games); I let people play it at lunchbreak all the time at work & their 30 minutes gets eaten up in no time, they think they've only been playing for 5 or 10 minutes. Definitely a blackhole for making time disappear!

Man, that really makes me eager to see an OS with fully integrated VR functionality. Why have monitors at all when you need is unlimited virtual desktops in 3D space?

I got dizzy viewing the video. I'll probably faint if I have to view it in real life.

Looks sweet. Couldnt help but think if I were watching aliens or something in the VR theater, look to your left and an alien jumps at you. Shit in pants lol. Endless possibilities. Want one, but not both. Will wait to see who comes out on top.

I imagine for first gen VR headset text legibility is still going to be the biggest issue, maybe with 4k screens it will stop being as much, but the current screens simply have a hard time making text easily read without causing eye strain.

I read on ars technical that there's still a noticeable 'chicken wire' effect.

Interesting. I would think that it just requires a different approach to presenting the text than what is presented on a normal monitor. If everything else can look good, there's a way to make text look good too.

Yeah. My Gear VR looks like a portable DVD player, where you can see the vertical pill-shaped pixels. Video games & stuff looks fine, but if you try to watch something like Netflix, you get eyestrain from trying to look for details but only seeing the screen-door effect. It's going to be a few generations before we get Retina-screen quality in VR, since they're basically already taking a Retina screen & putting a magnifying glass in front of it.

True 4k screens should alleviate this. The best Gear VR devices are really qhd which is really 2k. Once we have real 4k or higher then it will look great.

BTW, the 360 "adult" stuff is weird. :)

Looks pretty crappy and superfluous. You might be easily impressed.

What about it looks crappy? The only "crappy" aspect is the fact it's a video and not actually seen through a VR headset which would make it not nearly as crystal clear as the video is on a regular monitor.

So sure, the current gen of VR isn't going to look that nice, but if it DID look as good in the video, and it will within a year or two, what exactly looked crappy about it?

It's full immersion desktop interface, you can have virtual monitors, as many as you want, you can customize size, shape, etc. What exactly were you expecting from a virtual desktop app?
