I've got my 58" 1080p HP DLP hooked up to a HTPC, and it's awesome. Surfing the web is pretty much impossible even if I bump the resolution down to 720p, but movies and games are excellent.I definitely wouldn't want to use it as my primary monitor though.

why is surfing the web impossible
I'd like to know as well. My main uses for my computer are: surf ATOT, check email, chat online, and play Dota.
For me it's because most websites screw up their text sizes. IE is fairly tolerable because you can set the text larger and have it override the website's default. You can do that in Firefox too but it doesn't work quite as well. And even then you've still got sites that use graphics for everything (buttons, etc) and those don't scale well at all.
YMMV though... My vision sucks anyway, even at ~7.5ft from a 58" screen I still have to bump the text zoom up 4 or 5 notches to see anything. I'm currently running my 21" CRT at 1024x768.
