Any beer that ends in -ator is a Dopplebock (double bock) and most are from Germany. They're all pretty high in alcohol content, so 7.4% is about average for the style. As German beers go, Spaten is swill, it's the stuff they export because the locals don't want it. Optimator is okay, probably the best of the Spatens IMHO, but if you like that you should try Ayinger's Celebrator or Paulaner's Salvator which are way better and should be pretty easy to find in a package store with a good import selection. Or if you're really feeling adventurous, pick up a bottle or two (I think the bottles are only about 7oz) of Sam Adams Triple Bock. It's truly amazing stuff.
