Ever tried PowerArchiver?

I've been using PowerArchiver for quite a while now... it seems to do everything I need to it. It can handle every compression format that I can think of, has an easy-to-use interface (at least IMHO), integrates into the context menu, etc.

It's not free... but given this forum, that's never stopped anybody. I just live with the nag screen.

I hear people scream WinRAR all over the place... I've tried it several times, and have always found fault in it... though I can't recall why, at the moment.

Any reason other than product loyalty?

I just find it very very simple to use. Right click, extract here... or extract to folder or whatever... I don't even realize I have WinRAR installed to tell you the truth...

I've never had any problems with WinRAR, so I've never tried anything else. Well, someone suggested I give 9Zip a shot, it wasn't bad.

PowerArchiver was awesome....when it was FREEWARE. Once they started charging for it I stopped using it.

Yep, that's what I love and no nag box like WinZip.

aww...you mean you didn't like using it when the folks who created it wanted to start feeding their families with it? what a shame!

The one problem I have with WinRAR is it likes to extract everything to a temp dir first, which means I have to have enough space on one drive, and it wastes time copying from the temp drive to the actual location.

never had a problem with WinRAR, the context menu integration is simple, don't see how it could get much better. most people seem to agree around here :p

It asks you where to extract to...

No...I already had software that I had legal licenses to so I just reverted back to them. It isn't like Powerarchiver did anything the others wouldn't do I simply liked the interface and switching back was no big deal and cost me no more money.

I'm looking on the WinRAR website... I think that the reason I ditched WinRAR was because it didn't support Gzipped tar files -- it can open them, but not write them.

Can anyone prove me wrong?
