A sociopath would be someone who is totally unmoved by the suffering of others, or the suffering of animals. Such a person could not know empathy for any person or animal. They could kill a baby in its mothers and have no feeling whatsoever for either the baby or mother. But they do not necessarily kill.
Many sociopaths live out their entire lives without committing any criminal behavior and with few, if any, people suspecting they are sociopaths. As the above books points out, one thing they all seem to have in common is they all seem to be very good liars. That is, they are very, very good at it and you would seldom suspect they are lying. This is totally unlike most habitual liars, whom you usually know are lying as quick as they open their mouths. Sociopath/psychopath is a personality disorder and it is innate."
