ever teach someone how to drive ?

It's quite scary... especially merging with highway traffic. And I didn't even get to teach short entrance ramps... mostly pretty long ones...

Biggest rookie mistake seems to be the car veering when you turn your head a bit too...

In case you're wondering, he did go to a driving school and got his full license but it's been months and we just bought him his own used car... I don't think 2 days was enough... 😱

Please tell me you're teaching him that the entrance ramp is a place to pick up speed, not a place to go 45 into oncoming traffic.

yeah, in a bad choice of carpark. How was I supposed to know that my g/f at the time would hit the accelerator instead of the brake when reversing towards a cliff? Another perfectly good pair of underpants ruined.

Yes, I've been driving since I was 15 (shh) which was 12 years ago... I'm pretty familiar with highways by now. His problem is remembering to watch ahead, but: match speeds while glancing and maintaining the signal and keeping the car straight. I didn't even have a chance to teach him to check his blindspot... that would be scary for us. I guess it's a lot for n00bs. We must've done entrance ramps about 15 times yesterday.

Sounds scary. I'm sure it was bad for my parents, since my dad taught me to drive in Chicago. My sisters learned in a small town area, so it was easier on the parents. Of course I got to be with them on their first trips through Chicago and I'm suprised I didn't wet myself with how many accidents we just nearly missed being in.

i had the chance to teach a foreign exchange student from germany how to drive.. never did though. she was hot 🙂

I don't mind teaching, it's teaching how to drive a manual transmission that scares me

<---grimaces thinking about teaching his sister how to drive a manual, and her forcing the shifter in gear without hitting the clutch *GRIND* 🙁

Of course!!! More people need to know this, instead of slowing down....hate stupid drivers!

we were too busy messing around we never got around to driving

You know. I got my permit in Feb and I didn't get my license till November (we're talking years ago). I cheated by driving before my first lesson too. I was taken on highway on my first lesson and I was a tad scared. Today I'm a highway nut. In the South Bay, the network of highways is really nice. You can get anywhere with highways just like in LA (except we dont deal with traffic, so its a 2 min drive on highway to McDonalds for me). Yea I practiced highway once by just hitting every single on and off ramp for like 10 exits straight.

I guess it's hard with traffic, but start with a highway with less traffic. Tell him to start looking earlier. Quick glances or whatever. All you do is hold the wheel steady. I've only driven for 3 years now but I dont see a problem with commuting in traffic. Oh yea install those blind spot mirrors =)))))))). Omg those are so haxage during the day. I dont even need to check blind spot although I typically do as a good habit.

I taught a girl how to drive a stick in an automatic. 😀

I'll never forget, this easy acronym my drivers ed teach told me,

S.M.O.G

Signal
Mirror
Over the should
Go

Don't bother going on the highway unless you they are a master of that.

Never taught anyone to drive, but every day I see people driving who could use a couple lessons from someone with some sense.
