Ever tasted alcohol as it finishes the distillation?

instant dryness in mouth
instant burn

suddenly, the world went right, apples hit my tongue, apples upon apples hit my tongue...

then we tried it from some sort of glass...

half straight alcohol, half water (get the proof down to like 80)...
burn was gone, completely...
it tasted like apples... apples... apples...

this shit is going to be good once it ages... like phenomenally good.

I've known plenty of chemists who had a steady supply of pure alcohol (96%), never did try it straight though, only used it in cocktails.

I have tasted the second distallation of spirit before it is barreled for bourbon. It was about 100 - 120 proof and tasted strongly of corn and grains. It is called "White Lightning" or "White Dog" and is sold unaged by some companies.

If you tasted apples was this some sort of vodka made with apples?

Umm, Everclear is 190 proof and it used to be pretty cheap too. I tend to avoid the stuff these days, but, back in college my "regular" drink was a big glass filled with ice, then, 1/2 everclear and 1/2 rc cola. 2 glasses and 1/2 of a bottle later, I'd be pretty drunk.

Yea there is a drink at The Roadrunner in Parker, AZ called the Road Raper. It is made with Everclear. They also sell cherries that have been soaked in everclear.

Lets just say you leave that place fucked up.

I haven't touched the stuff since then... but, I used to drink a lot back then. 1/2 a bottle of Everclear isn't much more alcohol then you'd find in a fifth of whiskey or rum. Also, I am a giant fatass, so there's a lot of dilution...

Nowadays a case of beer usually lasts me a month, and that's with friends coming over on weekends leeching a few here and there, hah.

It had been tempting to try to make drinks from the absolute alcohol in the lab.

I've always been put off by the fact that they don't put on the datasheet just how they have prepared it. Who knows if it's been benzene washed for dryness, or dried with some other bad ass toxin?
