and noticed how you look in the photo is noticeably different then how you see yourself in the mirror every day?

Nope, never. Actually when I take self portraits, I shoot a bunch of different shots until one turns out most like what I see in the mirror. So I guess I can't legitimately answer the question.

the real question is...if you took a self portrait of your computer, does it look the same if you put it in front of a mirror ;)

I did some self-portraits with a Canon-A1, everything on that camera was manual. Talk about a challenge. I set-up my tripod, zoomed in where I wanted to sit, clicked the timer, and ran in, and sat down. Some of them turned out pretty darn good. I got more of a satisfaction out of knowing, everything was done by me, and not an automatic adjustment, done by the camera itself.
