Anyone ever done it? I never would but I'm just wondering what would convince someone to do it other than if they absolutely had to (getting laid off or something).

No, but I would. A 10% paycut, for instance, is easily worth it if you're in a better/more secure position.

Fsck yeah, when I quit as a Property Manager to get into Computers. It was well worth it though not to have to deal with the scum that you do when you are in Real Estate!

Pretty much every time I've changed jobs in the last couple of years, I've taken a pay cut. Although, mainly it's due to decreased hours. I certainly don't want to go back to the 72 hrs/week I was rostered to work (but actually worked closer to 80 hrs because of the workload).

I'll be applying for a more senior job soon and I anticipate a 40% pay cut for the first year - mainly because that year will be predominately training.

Yes but not by choice, was laid off not by choice and now make less than I'd like.

I would take slightly less if the opportunity came to work much closer to my hometown. I am spending gobs of money on gas right now and I am damn tired of it not to mention the incessant wear and tear on my vehicle. :(

Paid 9.15$ hour at a resteraunt. Took job at golf course for $5.90 hour. Do I regret it? Somewhat, only because my 'new' car has exploded into $900 in repairs within a week of owning it and has been in the shop for 3 weeks now.

Much better job though...

I would do it if that meant I lmove to a city with a lower cost of living; say from Chicago to Austin, TX ..

No, but several people I know turned down job offers for $40K+ per year to go to graduate school.
