I'd check on the value of the reloc package. I know mine was upward of $30k, which I have to repay if I don't stay for a set period of time. I could put up with a good deal of stress rather than having to pay that back.

I also worked for 2 months picking up dead animals - I quit the day they told me I had to go cut a horse to pieces (with a chainsaw) that had died in a park 50 miles from Brooklyn. The funniest part is I had never used a chainsaw ever...jackass co-worker pulled rank on me.

Actually I worked roadkill patrol before for a Texas county and we'd joke about the more incredible animal death scenes and take pictures and upload them to the net, then get baked after work. Loved that job, but the pay was shit and it had no benefits so it was a short lived fling.

I swear I saw this already on another website...didn't peg you as the one that posted it though.

OP, if you hate you job it's time to find a new one. Being you got relocated you probably have a ton of money requiring you make at least one year of employment for them.

Do interviews and get your resume out. I wouldn't just want to quit a job in this economy without a safety net. In the past I did just quit, usually I had a new job within 2 weeks.

i worked in one of the top 15 consulting firms after graduating. absolutely worst corporate culture; unfair hiring practices; and just plain fake, awful people to work with. ended up quitting while I was a lead on the project. at least the company name on my resume got me several great jobs right after.

Sounds like every constant and every consulting firm ever created.

But I'm talking about business consulting... maybe you worked for something relatively useful like an arts-consultant.

Working at NCIX right now? Agreed to go back cause I needed a job but they stuck me in a different store and I hate the atmosphere. Can't see sticking it out till Sept. Can't see sticking it out one more week. But I was asked if I was going to stay till Sept about 2 days into the job and I said yes at that point, nothing in writing mind you. Not sure what to do right now. I also hate burning my bridges and making people angry. Should stick it out I know but not sure I can.

good i suppose (the only reason most of us keep doing it). i just dont want to wake up and be a seventh year and still wonder what i want to do

What is good I suppose in this case? I realize everything is relative but I'd imagine big law in NY would pay very well indeed.

what's so bad about biglaw btw? I know people talk about how much they hate it but is it because of the hours? or are you mostly reviewing documents, doing mindless crap and not involved enough in court litigations?

Yea... my current job. Long crappy hours and very stressful work.

On the plus side, I've got a job, after being unemployed for longer than I care to admit. I've got my life turned around and lost a lot of weight because of it. I've got my credit cards paid off, and recently bought a new car. So yea, on the bright side, I'm doing a lot better than I was last year at the time, but I'm not going to be stupid and quit my job before I have something else lined up.

You need to consider the opportunity cost relative to the next-best pay and the long-term costs of breaking your contract.

there is NO DOUBT that the company would break a contract with you if it made them an extra few dollars.

What kind of contract is it? We need more details. Is it a contract through a head hunter based on an hourly rate? Is it a contract that states since they paid relocation you will be liable to repay it if you leave early?

What do hate about the job?

The company gave me a $10k lump sum relocation package on the spot but I need to stay at least 2 years. This is a full time employment position with full benefits. If I leave after 1 year, I'll have to pay back half. If I leave now I payback the full amount.

It's just not what I expected from an audit position. I have an IT background but they're making me do financial audits which I hate and have never done it in my life. I've been spending long hours trying to build financial reporting documents instead of utilizing my years of experience in IT.

Its easier to find a job, with a job, so I recommend you keep your resume up to date, and do some interviews. You dont have to leave, just be aware of whats out there, and let people see your face.

Do like one interview a week.

Did you think you would be doing IT auditing?

Why is there an expectations/job requirements mismatch?

Sure have: my current jobs. Hate my second casual job because everything is rush, rush, rush, last minute, and pretty damn hard to do (of math)... Pay is relatively bad too at 2/3 the going rate in my field.

But my main job takes the cake. I wanted to quit the first week, but have been sticking it out for 3 years soon. Hauling ass once I finish school - hopefully.

It was communicated to me during the interview they want my strong IT background in the team and I thought I'd be doing more IT auditing and assisting on some process audits as my title is IT auditor. But top management's IT background is very weak and we dont have strong IT audit programs/process (almost none). All deliverables/findings to the audit committe strongly rely on financial/business process audits... So far I haven't touched one database/os/network/app audit.

Only jobs I really hated were ones I didn't intend to be at long to begin with (walmart/sears/etc). Generally was only at them 3-5 weeks.

The problem with call centers is not what they support, it is all about the people who run them. They are all, 100%, sadists, power trippers and, policy prophets.

You can find something better, if only by the virtue of there not being any worse type of employment even if you shovel shit.

<---- Call center Operations Manager. LOL

I applied at a call center after being out of college fora year and not getting a single response from jobs that I *wanted*. Wound up enjoying the work and the company, and now am moving up 'the ladder' so to speak.

I'd probably plan to tough it out until the one year mark but you can start looking now. Getting some general business/finance experience isn't the worst thing in the world.
