Ever since my GF got her WoW account locked...

So I have been playing WoW with my gf since the game came out. I quit the game a while ago and sold my account. My life has improved quite a bit since the day I quit, going to the gym more, spending more time with friends/family, and I am free to do whatever I want with my free time not having to be on a raid schedual throughout the week, which was usually 8 hours straight from 6 to 2 am in the morning (hardcore naxx guild pre TBC).

My gf just recently (2 weeks ago) got her account locked due to account sharing, so she has to fax in a bunch of information to blizzard in order to get it unlocked. Ever since she has changed into a different person.

Bonuses of her not playing WoW anymore:

1. Spend more time together, 3-4 times a week as opposed to 1-2
2. Has more interests in doing other things other then playing WoW, before it would only be lets play WoW and not do anything else, because watching movies, going out to bars, etc, would be boring and a waste of time when she could be raiding.
3. Pays more attention to me and other people, actually started walking her dog again.
4. Increased sex drive (big big increase there) went from like once every 2-3 weeks to several times a week.
5. Has plans and ambition for the future, she is actually making plans and not being a vegetable.

I just find it amazing how many people play these games, and I am talking about hardcore serious raiding which is like another full time job. I seriously think its a drug and does more harm then good.

She hasnt sent in her stuff yet to get the account unlocked, but she talks about how she misses her character and how she regrets working so hard for it, and wants it back. I am just scared that when she gets it back its going to be the same old story all over again, of her playing and not caring about much else that's going on around her.

That's my rant for the day, thanks for reading.

So I have been watching TV with my gf since the premiere of Lost. I quit the watching a while ago and sold my TV. My life has improved quite a bit since the day I quit, going to the gym more, spending more time with friends/family, and I am free to do whatever I want with my free time not having to be on a couch throughout the week, which was usually 8 hours straight from 6 to 2 am in the morning (hardcore Baywatch fan).

My gf just recently (2 weeks ago) got her TV stolen due to lock bumping, so she has to fax in a bunch of information to the police in order to get it back. Ever since she has changed into a different person.

Bonuses of her not watching TV anymore:

1. Spend more time together, 3-4 times a week as opposed to 1-2
2. Has more interests in doing other things other then watching TV, before it would only be lets watch TV and not do anything else, because watching movies, going out to bars, etc, would be boring and a waste of time when she could be listening to a laugh track.
3. Pays more attention to me and other people, actually started walking her dog again.
4. Increased sex drive (big big increase there) went from like once every 2-3 weeks to several times a week.
5. Has plans and ambition for the future, she is actually making plans and not being a vegetable.

I just find it amazing how many people watch these shows, and I am talking about hardcore serious watching which is like another full time job. I seriously think its a drug and does more harm then good.

She hasnt sent in her stuff yet to get the TV recovered, but she talks about how she misses her characters and how she regrets wasting so much time on it, and wants it back. I am just scared that when she gets it back its going to be the same old story all over again, of her watching and not caring about much else that's going on around her.

Just don't raid... it's that simple. I play sparingly now and it's not bad... the only reason I usually log on anymore is because I'm bored and don't feel like going out. I've actually been a bit more active lately, but my mussed up foot's causing problems with being active and at least in WoW, I can just get a heal for that ;).

I can't play that game and not raid. I see other people around with mad epics and in tier 4 or 5 and I just hate being inadequete. If I play, I must destroy everyone.

The trick is asking yourself this questing "Am I having fun?" If you can't say yes in under 1 second STOP PLAYING. Most people don't notice they aren't having fun playing the game until they get away from it for a few days. Then they wonder why they played so long.

Why don't you point out the changes you've seen in her, and try to convincer her to give up the game?

I quit WoW when I got to 60 and there was really nothing left to do but raid. I got the whole raiding thing out of my system with EQ and don't plan on ever doing it again.

How the hell or why even do you raid that much haha? I raid but its only like 4 hours max a night... friday-sunday (the days I normally go out anyways) we dont because... well we like to do things? otherwise I would be sitting at home from 7 to 11 anyways doing nothing but relaxing etc. (I get off work at 2:30pm so I have plenty of time to do whatever)

but 8 hours 5+ days a week is nuts...

You need to start sharing her account as soon as it is back up to get it locked again.

The expansion content really lets you relax way more than the pre-expansion.

We raid less hours a week, in addition to having another 10 or so people available to allow people to not attend every raid (25man raids vs 40man).

Bah, you know how many people I've beat that've out-geared me?

I remember dueling a shaman from the best Horde guild on the server and he never even touched my rogue. Well, I think he was using lightning shield, which would've hurt me, but I don't count the automatics :p.

I'm tempted not to get anything better than my green gear and try to beat people... but the problem is, with the huge, insane amounts of health that people have now... you need more g ear or you'll just end up dying first no matter how well you play. Back in the day, health wasn't as plentiful and the classes that could output huge burst damage were kings of PVP (dagger-spec Rogue, Elemental Shaman, 3-min Fire Mage, etc).

EDIT: I also want to get certain sets because they look cool :D. But I like how the Assassination set looks, so I'll just get that :p.

This is precisely why I've never even read a review for WoW. I know that if I were to start playing I would get sucked in and the rest of my life would deteriorate. Counterstrike was bad enough, and at least with that you can hop on a server for 45 minutes and just leave.

Yup thats what I pretty much do now. I play CS and some wc3 and log off whenever I want to. Can't wait for Starcraft 2 or Diablo 3!

This is only so because Blizzard hasn't released all of the 25-man content. It's going to get waaaaaaay worse very soon.

WoW is totally addicting, and I can't kick it. I don't raid anymore at all, but that hasn't stopped me from spending 20-25 hours a week in the arena and farming gear for the arena. Back when I was living by myself I easily played 40 hours a week as my guild learned and farmed MC, BWL and AQ40. I quit before Naxx, only to come back in November to, as I told my fiancee, "socialize with old friends and to fool around with the game." Riiiiiiiight.

On the other side of the coin, as a previos poster mentioned, is television. My fiancee watches a good 20-30 hours of it a week, and even when I don't play WoW during the evening I have to compete with Desperate Housewives, American Idol, Brothers and Sisters, America's Next Top Model, Dancing with the Stars, a billion movies from Netflix, and whatever else our TiVo unit grabs.

I guess what I'm trying to say is you're not alone in your problems. Many, many couples face the tv and video game culture.

Don't hold your breath. Nothing has been announced and I doubt that either of these titles will be Blizzard's next projects. WoW is a total cash cow, and they'll continue working on new content and expansions instead of their earlier series.

I would pay a monthly subscription to play D3, and probably SC2. I don't think either are happening anytime soon.

Even so, with more 25man content, you can still only fit 25 people into any particular raid.

Yep, I quit all MMORPG's.

I wasted my fair share of time on them. Hopefully there might one day be a backlash to the no-lifing culture they promote.

It's very hard to throw in the towel.
