Ever since I installed Windows Media Player 9, it takes about 10 seconds to open an MP3!

AHHH! This sucks! It doesn't matter what player I use, my whole system starts to lag once it tries to open an MP3. IT takes about 10 seconds for the song to start playing, and for that 10 seconds whatever program is tryin to open the MP3 stops responding (WMP9, Kazaa). What could be causing this?

What OS? do you have the same problem if you try to open the MP3 in WinAmp?

After the song starts playing does your system return to a more "normal" operating state?

Thatnks for the quick response :)

XP Home Edition, additional spacs can be found below.

Yes, the system returns to normal. I have also found that it happens on WMP video files, Divx movies, and other types of media. As far as Winamp, let me download it and tell you. :)

That is pretty strange problem, was this recent enough that you could just use system restore to revert to before you installed WMP9 and try the install again?

A restore point would have been made automatically when you installed it (it's actually part of the install).
