if you know the other person , i am sure it is a safe/reliable method , WU is a very old company

they just get a bad rep from strangers stealing from people.
 
I prefer the bank wire transfer option because it's cheaper.

However WU's business is built in people sending each other money. If it is an absolute emergency and you don't mind being raped with fees, then go for it.

Just make sure you are using his correct info, his full name, complete and current mailing address, and valid daytime phone number.
