Ever seen an animated CAPTCHA?

Go to http://xfinitytv.comcast.net/ and click "Register" at the top-right corner.

Kinda neat. Compared to most static CAPTCHAs, this is a lot easier for a human to read. If it's still effective at defeating machine algorithms, I wish more CAPTCHAs were done this way...only without Flash.

Cool... except for the use of Flash. I wonder what kind of CAPTCHA's we'll develop once Artificial Intelligence becomes indistinguishable from our own intellgence.... :hmm:

I don't believe this is google's captcha. The page uses googleapis.com but not google.com or recaptcha.net(?) scripts.

I like this idea more than just making static images hard to decipher. I hope this catches on.

What do we do when AI becomes better than our intelligence? 🙂

Hopefully the intelligent AI we end up creating is made with benevolence and compassion in mind, and not some hyper-intelligent killing machine.

*gasp!*
"Oh no! The intelligent machine we created for the purpose of killing people is killing people!"
😵

You already have Comcast username(s) set-up. You can use one of these to sign-in with.

WTF, I'm not even signed-in. Shows me that on every browser.

I haven't seen that one before, but I saw the word moving back and forth horizontally before. If I can remember the website, I'll come back and post.

Cool... except for the use of Flash.

Disable flash and you get this:

Here's a better xkcd, but it contains some bad language:

Oh its gonna be so easy to crack...

Agreed! It might be as easy as just looking at the Flash file. No OCR required!

Now here's a hard CAPTCHA for bots!

Vappic 4D CAPTCHAs are meant to exercise your visual cortex and give captcha farmers headaches.

What's wrong with asking easy questions? Have spambots beaten that system. 2+2=, what color is this?, what animal is shown?...

What's wrong with asking easy questions? Have spambots beaten that system. 2+2=, what color is this?, what animal is shown?...

That's a really good question. They have a few weaknesses.

1. Math problem can be easily solved by a computer.
Go to www.google.com and type 2+2= and you'll see what I mean.
If you really want to see something amazing, go to http://www.wolframalpha.com and type in x^2+(y-(x^2)^(1/3))^2 = 1 and watch it solve it.

2. Not everyone speaks English
"What animal is show?" is language dependant.

3. Some culture actually associate negative feeling with some animals.
e.g. An owl in the US is wisdom, but in other cultures it's an omen of death.

4. Any image based captcha system would also have to have an unlimited supply of images. Most captcha systems do not hand out the same captcha more than a few times.
Fun example: I selected a random image from an RSS feed, so it's fresh. I used the Chrome Extentions, "Image Search" from google and searched for it.
Here's what it found.
Not only did it find all references to the original image, it guessed what search would turn up that image!
