Ever see a GIGApixel image?

I'm amazed that the article in that thread makes Betterlight scanning backs seem to be something new, innovative, and unique to that particular photographer. (Un)fortunately, the scanning backs have been around since at least the mid to late 90's, IIRC. 🙂

BTW (not referring to the reproduction linked by the OP), does it not seem that the more gigapixels, the less artistically interesting the image? The gigapixel photo above is not one of Max Lyons' best IMHO, and the 4 GP image that everyone raves about is "interesting" only in the sense that it was an almost impossible technical exercise (not to mention totally impossible in the field compared to shooting 8x10 sheet film). Multi-image stitched photography is a great tool, and there are plenty of folks doing tremendous quality work with it, but from what I've seen, that quality of work does not happen when they are just attempting to hit some arbitrary technical goal.
