Ever played Xbox on an IMAX screen?

A local radio station here is renting out the IMAX theater to hold a Madden 2004 tournament. I don't plan on entering (if you want to, you can email them and sign up), but the idea was interesting. How tall would a football player be on an IMAX screen?

What are movies filmed at? Like Star Wars which was shown in IMAX theaters...what resolution is something like that?

There's no real resolution because it's shot on film, but:

"The large format (15/70 image) is ten times larger than a conventional 35 mm frame (15 perforations per frame as opposed to five) and three times larger than a standard 70 mm frame."

Thanks for the info. I was wondering if movies of today would be transferrable to HD format once the new players become available. I take it that they would be and you'd still get a greatly enhanced picture over what is put out now?

Sorry to hijack the thread. Madden on an IMAX would probably be fun.

Star Wars was not shot on film, but I can't remember the resolution the camera's shoot at (at least the one's Lucas uses). It's not THAT high though from what I recall.

Edit: In a quick google search, I found an article stating that the camera's used to film Episode II were 2.2 million pixels. Not sure about episode 3.

Episode 2 was filmed entirely with digital cameras, at 1920x1080.

What does Episode 2 have to do with IMAX?

True IMAX is only shot on film.

Uh, the question asked was:

You'd have to sit pretty far back. WIth games like that you need to be able to takein the whole screen pretty quickly and having to looka round would suck.

I play Crimson Skies with my projector so I hit about a 5 foot screen and that's almost too big since I actually have to look around the sheet to see everything.

Interesting idea on the part of the theatre operator.

They won't have to pay IMAX or a film company a dime.

I don't know about an IMAX screen, but I have played a number of games on a projector and it is TOTALLY SWEET.

It still has nothing to do with the actual IMAX format. Regardless of what it was shot on it was blown up to be shown on an IMAX screen.

Just because it was shot at 1920x1080 doesn't mean that's the resolution of the IMAX format which was ultimately the question he was asking.

I was sort of intersted in both. What is normal IMAX resolution and what are digital movies being shot at nowdays? I realize that both can probably range a bit.

Knowing SW2 was 1920x1080 is good. I wasn't sure how high they were shooting something like that. Guess we'll get the 1920x1080 version when Blu/HD DVD start coming out?

Also, someone said IMAX is film. How are they going to project the image if that's true? I guess just an ordinary projector?

I was just answering the question, which was, What are movies filmed at?

Thank you for that. I'm aware that most movies are still film, but I thought some were digitally shot now.
