Ever look at some code you wrote and get an existinal crisis when you realize how long ago it was?

Red Squirrel

No Lifer
Was looking at a custom config file parser I wrote as I wanted to add features to it that I originally intended to add and never did. Realized the last update was 2012. It does not feel that long ago, where has the time gone! Most people were worried the world was going to end then, and here I was just writing a parsing library.

Time goes by too fast, makes me realize how short life is.

Heck, I've got a server that hasn't been rebooted in 3564 days (it's a pretty stripped-down Gentoo server with no public-facing IPs)
I mostly get nostalgic when I see code I wrote that long ago.

I haven't recorded any music in a while, and the last couple of tracks are still online. Looked them up recently at they were posted TEN YEARS AGO.

WTF HAPPENED????

To me this is perpetually 2008 and the 90's were 10 years ago max.

My reaction when I read my old posts here

the only code I ever wrote was 8-bit machine code back in the day. I don't even want to try to follow it now.

It's not just you! 😵

I'm still shocked that it's as late as the '90s. How did it get to be the '90s already? That's bad enough. 2000 being in the past is incomprehensible, yet alone 2010.

It wasn't that long ago I was watching Space 1999 and thinking, God that's so far in the future, I'll be really _old_ then.

On a sort of similar subject I remember at one point I renewed one of my domains for 10 years and thinking "wow I'll be in my 30's by the time that expires!". And I had to renew it again a while back... That domain is 18 years old now. 😱

I feel that threat when some old earworm jingle pops in my head randomly so I start singing, "I don't want to grow up I'm a Toy's R Us Kid!" my kids look at me like I've gone insane singing something they've never heard. Or when I was going through a junk box in a drawer and my kids spot my blue and yellow Blockbuster card and ask what was it for.
