Just got this in a email:

LOCKED YOUR KEYS IN THE CAR????

If you lock your keys in the car and the spare keys are at home, call

someone on your cell phone. Hold your cell phone about a foot from

your car door and have the other person at your home press the unlock button

of your key fob (clicker), holding it near the phone on their end.

Your car doors will unlock. It saves someone from having to drive your keys

to you.

Distance is no object you could be hundreds of miles away, and if you can

reach someone who has the other "remote" for your car,

you can unlock the doors (or the trunk!).

Editor's Note * It works fine! We tried it out, and it unlocked our car over

a cell phone!)

6139 posts and you are still retarded.

AT isn't as educational as it used to be.

It sounds like a good idea, but if they are marketing it via email, it's not going to work.

It does work, you can also open your garage door the same way.

It's not a question of frequency, but the type of waves -- sound is a compression wave, RF is an electromagnetic wave. They're not in the same spectrum.

Anyone remember those old Zenith TVs that had ultrasonic remotes? My grandpa had one, I could actually hear some of the buttons, but I always thought it was a crazy way to do it. Anyhow, almost (probably all) keyfobs work on RF, so, yeah, this won't work. Pretty obvious if you ask me...

Not really.
Some software to enable your cell phone to unlock your car sounds pretty cool to me.
The hardware would need to change too, and it would make keyless entry systems less secure.
