ever heard of this??

got two machines here with similar problems. on one, the modem locks up the phone line. the minute the line is plugged into the modem, the phone cannot be used. on the other, you can call out on the line, but you cannot receive incoming calls...the callers get a busy signal. btw, both modems surf the web just fine. i believe one of the mbds is a P4, not sure of the other one. both modems are redowls. the two machines are gateways. someone mentioned "reverse polarity" but i have never heard of this in reference to modems. any ideas??
 
yea i have seen the one where the modem grabs the phone line as soon as it is plugged in even if the pc is not turned on. The Modem is bad. Modems that have been surge damaged will behave that way sometimes.
