She was kidnapped by a psycho she met in a chat room in 2002 at the age of 13, tortured, raped and posted on the internet.

Guy is doing 20 years.

Six years ago, Alicia Kozakiewicz says she was just a normal 13-year-old girl. That all changed on New Year's Day 2002. Today, she recounted for Congress how an online sexual predator befriended her in an Internet chat room, then kidnapped her, drove her across state lines and locked her in a cage in his basement, where he beat her, tortured her and raped her.

Very familiar with her story as it happened here. I give her much credit for her willingness to openly talk about what happened to her.

I just can't get behind a show like "To Catch a Predator". Having a judge, jury and executioner in the form of a smarmy TV host and camera crew that beams video of you out to the public before you ever set foot in a courtroom... Bah.

If the show followed the same rules, laws and guidelines that law enforcement officers had to in order to catch these guys I would be totally behind it. Instead, they do their show just to get ratings and these guys all end up just being humiliated which is far from justice.

Plus, what they do comes dangerously close to entrapment.

There's something I could never figure out... Female police officers dress up as prostitutes, and they arrest men who are soliciting prostitution. But for the most part, they do next to nothing to catch online predators. "To catch a predator" is wildly successful at finding predators. It seems that the police departments are either grossly incompetent when it comes to technology, or they don't care.

Pennsylvania's Attorney General has a unit which pursues online predators aggressively. They have made 96 arrests already, which just shows how widespread this is. Every time they make an arrest in our area it's printed in the paper with the name, town, and photo of the guy who got busted.

I think money and time would be better spent on educating people, particularly, these young children who are apparently naive enough to go visit a complete stranger they met in in an internet chatroom.

i don't get how people are naive enough to befriend people online at 13:p
i was pretty cynical about this even when i was 13 online
in fact we used to pop into aol chat rooms and play to catch a predator ourselves for kicks:p
way before chris hanson did his show heh

Have any of you actually watched/listened to that video the OP linked?

Just disturbing the things she had to go through, makes me feel ill just thinking about the tortures she went through that you'd only think exist in horror movies.

:(

I commend her for having the courage to speak out and tell countless strangers what happened to her.

No kidding. I'm all for dropping the focus on prostitution and switching to this.

Why did that piece of shit get only 20 years? Do they really think someone like that won't be a danger to society when he's released?

Agreed
I have no issues with the TV show its techniques.

Tastelessness is often funny. Making light of the rape of a 13 year old girl.... not so much.

this pic might explain the mentality a little more;)

hey, the tastelessness was there from the start. the creepy testimony yes...and after her last line, the site immediately fed me a perky commercial on wendys breakfast slam for 4.99!

to be frank the legislation is nonsense. if you are willing to risk jail to kidnap children, you are willing to risk jail to kidnap children:p its politicians using her for political theater to rile up emotion and push through pointless legislation.

To the few on the first page of this thread defending (yes I say you're defending) perverts by saying "Entrapment", and "Judge, jury, executioner..."....I say

STFU.

Fvcking retards. Entrapment my ass. Let's assume for a minute an IM pops up on my PC reading "OMG, hi, I'm 13, like the mike's hard lemonade, and older guys".....guess what, I'm closing it. If I pursue it, and go so far as to drive somewhere to meet this person then I deserve to go to jail and be shamed on national TV as well.

If you don't have enough control over your own actions to know better than to "Fall" for something like that then you really should end yourself anyway.
