ever have someone do something so dumb at work that you are left speechless?

Today was supposed to be my day off, but my guy that was working apparently had to leave because of a family emergency. Of course my boss who I haven't seen in months just happens to be there today. I slept in and finally got their messages around noon. Work had left me 8 messages, quite a lot, and sounding more frantic as time went on.

I called them back as soon as I got up and they said they needed me there ASAP. No problem. I ask if everything is ok and they say they will talk to me when I get in. This is a bad thing. When I get to work I hear the most unbelievable story ever.

It seems a customer had dropped off their car to get worked on during the day yesterday. They left the keys in it and told us what needed to be done. Sometime around 9:30pm they saw their car driving down the street like a bat out of hell with my employee driving it. Yup, my employee took their car out joyriding.

Finally I get to talk to the customer. It turns out he is a buddy of mine from a long time ago. We kind of laughed off the whole thing and I told him I would hook him up with a deal anytime he wanted one. So he was cool. But what to do about GTA Boy? Well while we were debating that, I went through the paperwork from the yesterday and basically caught him stealing.

This kid has only worked for me for 2 weeks and has already committed a felony and stole from me. Goodbye!

My boss and I were both so taken back that all we could do was laugh. Then process the paperwork to fire this loser.

whats funny is the car had been in a wreck and the insurance company totalled it. It was smashed all to heck. The kid could have taken a page out of my book and no one would have cared....if he had asked. The owner is more laid back then Mister Rogers after 4 bong hits.
