I'm trying to write a paper discussing retributive justice as depicted in Measure for Measure. Guess what? It just isn't coming. I've been sitting here since 11:30 (not posting), to no avail. Bleh, and it's due tomorrow. :|

I hate papers, they really really suck. Best thing to do is just start writing B.S. and more stuff will flow into your head then just keep writing. Starting is what you have to do, that is the key thing. Just start it, after that you can just pile stuff on and expand.

I know that. I'm an English major; I eat this stuff for breakfast. I'm just having a tough time right now and wanted to complain. :)

I can only write well when I'm motivated to, otherwise its like pulling teeth. Its somewhat easier when I'm given an open topic to write about, but not much. I become motivated to write when I become motivated to write. I can't be motivated just because some instructor says, "Ok, write about something, anything. See you all tomorrow." It happens when it happens.

Thus far in my college career, I have written every English paper the morning it was due (typically three to four hours before class), and received an "A" on all of them. Inspiration had a tendency to arrive at the last minute, for me. I seem to be doing better in that department lately, though. :)

There was an essay question in my Myths final asking about Mrs Noah and the flood. I was sh!t out of luck because I could not remember Mrs. Noah ever mentioned in that llood myth.

I write better with a deadline. My finest hour: Thursday night, 9:00pm; I have a paper due Friday morning. It's the third quarter of Junior AP English, and I've known about the paper since the first week of school. My only preperation to date is a list of quotes that I'm planning on using in the paper. I wrote 20 pages on "The Perfect Storm" before I went to bed, and actually got an A on the paper.

pretty much every single one I did. I rarely was able to motivate to do anything before the night before it was due. Even on big papers, I would start them maybe, if I was being really good the day before. From high school through college I was like this. I've done it at work a couple of times too. I just need a deadline and pressure to work, I guess.

to me, english is a form of torture.

on an unrelated note, i am taking first year history, and it really pi$$es me off. first off, i have an FOB TA that makes us write summaries (she is the only TA out of about 5 or 6), to top that, she marks my grammar. when i got my paper back i was thinking "WTF, am i taking an english class?" man, to most engineers i know, taking any class where you actually have to read a fictional book is pretty much torture.

anyways, yea i'm like you i have a hard time getting inspired to write papers. and i always tell myself to write it at least a couple days in advance, but writing to me is like...watching the movie freddy got fingered...

General education was invented to get more money out of students and torture them. In my opinion.

Yay. 3/4 done. I've got the intro done, the argument presented, and now I just need to clarify a few points. Time for some sleep, and I'll work on it again before it's due tomorrow (1:30 tomorrow).

While I'm not in school, it seems to take me forever to get inspired to write the documentation for the stuff we do here at work..
