Got a message in msn from a friend telling me to go to this site

The domain is a pictures site. Went there, it was to download an execute an exe.

I downloaded and executed it.

Trojan horse installed on my computer.

Now virus scanning.

/me turns in his geek card.

Sorry to say, you never had a geek card. Now your douche card has been upgraded to lifetime membership with no fees.

After you remove the virus visit your friend and beat the living tar out of him. It should make you feel a little better.

The weird thing is....this Trojan horse...only shows up in taskmgr whenever msn is running. As long as msn is not running, it can't do much harm (as far as i know)

I hate though that it disabled my virus scanner, had to reinstall it. Oh I so want to kick the crap out of my friend. But it's not completely his fault. He probably didn't know any better. But I did :(

Did your friend give you the link on purpose? I've had friends who have an MSN virus and it randomly tries to get me to get it by linking sites in the hopes I'll click it and download the file.

I fix equipment for a living.
One time I spent all day (9 hours) troubleshooting a piece of gear.
NEVER once checked the power cord.

I've been brave enough to download and run a questionable EXE... turned out to be spyware only though...

naaa..the trojan sends the message on msn automatically. my problem is that i actually trusted my friend and thought he knew better then to send me a trojan. alarms rans off in my head when it asked if i wanted to execute the file. Again, trust overrode those alarms and i paid the price.

Well, you definitely still dress/groom yourself like a geek ;):p

Anyways, the stereotypical geek cant deadlift 100lbs, and doesnt even know to perform a deadlift in any event. I see having a "geek card" as being a stereotypical geek.
