This is how to pack and ship. Can't wait to see how they ship a full PC !

Recently, I ordered a 10ft AC cord from HP for use with my power adaptor. For just one small piece of power plug, this is how it was delivered to me. In a 10kg wooden pallet, directly from Inventec in Shanghai.

This is simply ridiculous as the barely 300g box was contained within a larger box and strapped to a wooden pallet weighing more than the contents itself. DHL must have charged HP a lot for this shipment, so how could this even be cost effective.

I am kind of annoyed with HP as I had to drag this pellet from my apartment lobby, into the lift, out of the lift, into my home, cut it open, remove the contents and discard all the junk packaging. This is ultra fail for environmental conservation.

I'm willing to bet there were other packages on the pallet that were delivered first and his was the last one so they just left it with the pallet.

Most of my stuff comes that way. Granted for a power cord is a little ridiculous. I got a 20 pack of hard drives that came crated in a box over six feet long.

You would have thought so, but nope. This is intentional, right from the Shanghai factory.

Oh, and this isn't the first time I've gotten this. It occured to me a year ago for an AC adaptor replacement, but I figured that was a mistake.

I unpacked a docking station for an HP laptop and the cardboard.....device.....that held it in place was nothing short of a work of art. I should have taken a picture of this thing. I must have had over 100 cuts & folds in the cardboard to completely cradle around the docking station.

I actually took it over to a couple coworkers and mused about whether the packaging took more engineers to create than the docking station within it :)

But a cargo pallet for a power cord?...that's just madness.

I had a battery from Dell get shipped in a box 3x the size of the battery, with several layers of thick foam all around it.
