hi everyone, i built and shipped a WORKING computer to a friend a couple days ago. she received it today, no work, said the video card and network card popped out (even though I screwed it), floppy drive not aligned either. So i asker her to check this and that, make sure this and that is securely plugged in, but no, still won't boot. She also said the hard drive wasn't spinning either. What the hell..man I'm pissed. I did insure it, should I just file it or tell her to mail it back to me or what. man I feel bad it didn't work for her straight out of the box like I expected to.

Had the same thing happen recently. A hot machine with all the goodies. I paid for full insurance, and it looks like UPS played soccer with the box. They claimed that the machine was packaged improperly, and so I didn't get a dime out of it. Fortunately, I only lost a case and a face plate for a DVD. Everything else worked!

UPS never honors insurance anymore. Don't even bother buying insurance from the UPS, they'll always claim improper packing. It doesn't matter WHAT you do, you could pack the thing in 50 cubit feet of foam and they'd still dismiss your claim because "you used the wrong color tape" or.. "we don't like your handwritting on the label, goodbye". :| UPS SUCKS!!! If you absolutely must ship by UPS, use UPIC (third party insurance)... it's not only cheaper, but they'll actually honor valid claims. I trust my packages to UPS as much as I trust my pet mouse to a mountain lion.

I just had two incidents with ups. A fong kai case came obviously crushed badly, looked like it was run over by a truck - i refused the shipment
An IBM 75GXP came with a corner of the box depressed, my driver let me look at it and it looked O.K. in the foil, but later, after opening, a big chunk of the black plastic in the back fell off in my hand.

I dont recall it being this bad in the past.

We stoped useing UPS at work after about a dozen monitors came in encased in spheres---all 8 corners of the boxes bashed in. Idiots in recieving signed for them, even though there was parts hanging outside of the box, and shall we say, they failed the rattle test. Fed-Ex for us!
