Ever had a tire on a 18 wheeler blow out right next to you?

As I was passing one up one of its rear outside tire blew. Sounded like a damn shotgun blast and I literally thought that it ripped off my whole rear bumper. I also felt rubber pieces flying and hitting against my rear quarter panel too. Luckily there was no damage to my car. Crazy!

No, but I did have a semi's trailer come unhooked, skid on to the road, and eventually come to rest in the median right behind me.

One time I was on the side of the freeway next to the emergency phone with my car broken down, and a semi drove by and the tire exploded right there and a piece of thread flew by me and almost hit me.

When I was a teen I used to change semi tires, I was filling one up, I had just checked the tire pressure and it was not filled yet, so I stuck the hose back on it, I started to hear this crunching sound, stuck my ear next to the tire and it was making the noise, and as soon as I pulled away it exploded. If I had not moved my head when I did I would of died, and then my boss decided it was time to get the cage finally for them, like duh, we were supposed to have one anyway.

After that I had 3 more do the same thing, all Michelin tire recaps. I had my tools next to the cage one time when one exploded and shot my tools across the shop and the cage off the ground.

As far as seeing one go off going down the road no, but I did see a set on fire from the brakes on the trailer sticking causing too much heat causing the tires to burst into flames, dame rim was bright res shooting flames and molten rubber everywhere, and the damn truck driver didnt even notice, I had to get around him honk my horn like crazy and when he finally noticed freaked out pulling off to the side of the road.

Yes, the one time I've been in the US. Damn things are scary as hell driving that fast. I guess that's why they have another 17 wheels.

No, but for some reason I've always been afraid of it happening... LOL.

I almost always floor it past a semi.

I've had that happen when I was to the side and a little behind a trailer. HUGE piece went flying at least 20 feet into the air, over my car and landed. Scared the crap outta me and certainly the people behind me who had to swerve to avoid it.

Had it happen on I35 in San Antonio TX. I was on my motorcycle doing about 80mph when one of the tires on the semi in front of me blew.

A huge piece of tire came flying at me...basically looked like half the damn tread. By some stroke of luck, it didn't hit me in the head or chest. It got my right shoulder. I had to pull over and sit awhile. I had a purple bruise the size of a grapefruit on my shoulder and couldn't move my arm for a few days.

I got REALLY lucky. That piece would've knocked me off the bike for sure had it hit anywhere else.

I NEVER rode in back of any truck after that.

Speaking of 18 wheelers...don't get me started on gravel flying out of uncovered dump trucks and cracking my windshield...

my sister in law had this happen to her on her way back to the house after buying a brand new lexus GS330 (i think it was 330). It left a big scratch on the hood and such. She was pretty pissed :(

Hmm, a crunching sound from this massive truck tire I'm filling with air, I'd better put my ear next to it!

J/K, I'm glad you weren't hurt.

I've been close to a semi when it blows a tire, it's incredibly loud. But not next to one, thankfully.

Worse than a blowout - tire falls off!

If you hear a truck driver singing Kenny Rogers' with twisted lyrics-

:music:

You picked a fine time to leave me loose wheel

:music:

you better look out or just RUN!

Worse I saw was on I-95 - an entire axle with a PAIR of dualies, airbrake bags still attached! - rolling across the median. Like seeing a UFO you just stare but don't ask questions and be glad if nobody gets hurt.

lol, that video is such a classic. Boy, did he get pwn3d. I hope he went out and played the lottery.

AFAIK, he was pretty severely injured. That thing mowed him down...

I was behind a semi on the freeway one time when my mechanic friend told me I should probably switch lanes because they often throw off their retreads.

No sooner than he finished saying that, the rear tire blew, sending half of the tread into my windshield. Luckily it didn't shatter, just cracked it pretty good. The car was a beater anyway, though. :)
