Ever had a SATA cable split before?

I've been scrapping a Dell box for parts and I was a bit surprised to find at one end the edge of the plastic plug has split, and inside the connector it looks like one of the metal connections has come out of its usual place and is sticking out inside the connector.

The cable wasn't being twisted inside the case particularly nasty or anything. It might be worth checking for if anyone is having weird SATA issues.

The split looks like the sort of damage I would expect as if someone had used a pair of long-nose pliers to break the connector open. Very odd. I can take some pics of it if anyone is interested.

I have seen that before, too bad my camera couldn't get the shot clear enough, but one of the contacts had somehow gotten pushed and rounded up.
So, instead of seeing |||| it was more like |,||
Funny enough, it still worked OK, but when I noticed this, I junked the cable.

I've seen them split open when yanked at an angle. I've even had a SATA power connector break like that, with the thin plastic opposite the contacts breaking apart.

I've had the sata power cable split open at the connector. I've also had a data cable split open the connector on my motherboard. These were both first gen cable/sata boards though. The newer stuff seems to fit better.

Wow how is that possible. except with a knife or scissors.

or just the data part splits,, that shouldn't happen either.
