My friend just passed the other day, it hasn't set in. It seems fake yet so surreal. The night he passed away I could not sleep. I hadn't been notified of his passing until the next morning. I could not sleep at all, twisting and turning the entire night. I never do that, ever. That was the first time. Really strange but he will be missed. He wasn't wearing a helmet when he crashed. He'll be missed though, RIP Christian!

I'm terribly sorry for your loss and I hope your friend did not suffer. I had the exact same thing happen to me 20 years ago. My best friend decided to ride his bike when I specifically told him ot to since I had removed the front brake caliper to rebuild it for him and I was waiting on the parts. He did not listen and took it to work the next day. While on a lunchtime run to the bank from the restuarant he worked at a car pulled out in front of him and he could not stop, T-boned the car, flew 100 feet and broke his neck upon impact (not wearing helmet either). I found out from my parents when I came in from an afternoon cruise in the old '57 T-Bird. I still remember that day like it was yesteday.

I know there is nothing I can say that will make it better but it will be over time. Just remember your friend for all the good things and try not to dwell on the accident......everything happens for a reason even if it makes no sense to us.

My uncle works in the ER and he decided to stop riding motorcycles after seeing horrendous crashes every day.

No, but my friend broke his neck on one a few months ago. Lucky he isn't paralyzed. Also, a local DJ here in Birmingham died yesterday after crashing on his bike.

I hit a car that cut me off on my way back from teaching a MSF course, collapsed my left lung, broke my left arm.

I had a nearly new bike left (had 2 @ the time of the accident), rode it once, determined I'd lost my nerve, (that invisible sphere that protected me when I rode) sold the bike, haven't ridden since.

Owned ~13 bikes & logged >100k miles, loved even the worst rides in the crappiest weather:(

Sorry for your loss Nocturnal.

Someone I used to know died on a motorcycle. He was drag racing another bike and slammed into a car that pulled out from a side street.

Was that the guy in Waikele?

I had my best friend die from a crash at the track. It's going to be hard, but eventually you'll accept it.

i have known a few deaths... in my life time.

A few weeks back a guy from sac.state that i knew ( i told him not to get something that powerful ) died while trying to run from the law.

Then my brother's friends brother crashed.. 2 years ago... he is just starting to walk with a cane.

Then this guy from online, who crashed really badly after not paying attention to advanced riders..

Frankly everyone who i know has crashed badly has ridden out of their skill range and had been on a high powered motorcycle.

Wow that's scary stuff... my condolences dude. :( I've always wanted a motorcycle, but I don't think I'd last all that long on one. Especially here in SoCal, since people have a hard enough time avoiding each other's cars, let alone motorcyclists. I'm sorry for you, your friend and his family dude..

No, though if I had a friend who owned a motorcycle I would expect them to go someday. Just way too damn dangerous. Too bad about your friend though...my brother had a bike for a couple of years and worried my mother to no end. My father bought one when he was a teenager and within a week was flying over the hood of a car. He took that as a lesson.

Young people dying is weird. A good friend of my brother's in his late 20's was high or drunk and fell off a building several years ago. He was an only child too...

My wild parents have 2 bikes, a BMW road bike and a Yamaha road bike.

Dad's 62, Mom's 56.

They can still out-drink any of my friends too. :D

Had friend in elementary school, Rochelle, back in the 1970s her dad died in a motorcycle accident. I heard the helmet cracked. :(

Last year someone I occassionally chatted with online told me her uncle had gotten killed after hitting a car with his bike or being hit by one I don't remember which. Just one of many anecdotal accounts I've heard. I know there was also some up and coming basketball player late last year who was in a bad motorcycle wreck and probably ended his playing days. I recall reading a teammate had told him not to get the bike because it was too dangerous. I am sure some sports fans know who this person is but I am drawing a blank.

I believe that there is a power at work here. My cousin who is in his early forties is a diabetic and has 2 teenage children. He suddenly fell into a coma yesterday and the last i heard was that he was getting better. At about noon today, on my way back from Boston, i suddenly had a headache... something i never felt before, a pain right behind my eye, toward the back of my head. I got home and i suddenly develop flu symptoms. Then i just received a call that he passed away at about noon. Pretty much at the exact same time that the intense pain started.

Coincidence, most probably. But, keep in mind that this is the first headache i have had in years. I haven't had flu symptons in years either (haven't had a sniffle in 2/3 years acutally.)
He was the sweetest man in the whole world. The worst things always seem to happen to nice people.

They all live in the UK, while i am in the US.. it hasn't even hit me yet because all the people i have talked to have been over the phone. It's going to be a long day :(

Wow, I went through the same thing about 10yrs ago.
My buddy that died was one of the most genuine person I've ever met in my lifetime.

Back when a bunch of us were around 20, we were all pretty much broke going through school and everything but he had money and he had a house where we hung out exclusively.
It was during the summer when we were at his house almost everyday playing video games, sports, drinking.......
We were there so much that his GF of 3 yrs got tired of us and made him decide if it was going to be HER or US....and he chose US.
It was an incredible summer that we hung out together so much.

Anyhow, one day he took his motorcycle and one of the guys for a ride..
He was behind a car on a street where there was no lane divider.....so he attempted to make a pass on the left and the car decided to make a sudden left turn.
Both of them went flying.....his helmet wasn't strapped, the other guy had his strapped.
Sadly he died, and the passenger sustain major injuries.

He was so well liked from everyone that knew him that it was a very difficult time for all of us.
We all cried for so many days.
That incident easily had the most effect on my life.
Losing someone that was so closed to me.....I wouldn't want anyone to go through that.

I always wonder that life would have been like if he was still around.
Anyhow, I shared your condolences.

My best friend died from a moped accident (this was in Japan) 6years ago. He was on his way home one night two or three weeks after he got his license, he'd been riding them for a few months before that, and headed straight into some stairs instead of turning with the road. Flew over the handles and hit the stairs 5 or 6 steps up. He was wearing a helmet but ended up in a coma for almost three weeks before he died.
I was away at the time and didn't know any of this. I called his house and his father picks up and after a few seconds he tells me that he's dead. I didn't know what to say so I just kind of hung up. I know what you mean, I still expect him to pop up when I'm hanging out at the local places.
