Ever get your hours cut at work?

Can an employer legally force you to go home early when you were scheduled that day? I work retail at walmart and they are cutting hours because the payroll isn't that great right now. I want to know if they can force you to work less than the hours you are scheduled. Right now they are just asking us to cut but I don't want to loose any hours and I want to know if they can force me to go home.

they're doing the same thing at kmart right now...asking anybody and everybody to leave early if they can. People leave and there's nobody left on the floor but two people 🙁

I worked at Office Depot Part Time for a few months. One time they had to "cut hours"

Since I was part time I was one of the first to go. I worked like 1 day a week for two weeks. That really hurt my paycheck too. 🙁

I work at Kroger. I am full-time and they can at most cut me to 32 hours. They would, however, have to lay off part-time people before they reduce my hours. Unions are good...

Nah. Here they lay-off people and have everyone else work extra. Oh wait, I'm salaried so I don't get overtime.

Heh wanna hear something messedup? My manager, whom I have never liked and has always been a prick to me, cut back my hours because I wouldn't give him a discount on modding his playstation. I mod them for $20, and he wanted it cheaper than that. He actually cut back my hours because I wouldn't give him a discount. F-him. He's not my friend, he gets no discount.

 

Yep - I've been cut down on hours too at work. I work at a golf course, and while we usually have 2 people working @ the same time during the summer, they've cut us down to one. So basically, I'm earning about 2/3 of what I used to be earning.

That's okay. I'll have a job at the U of M this fall where they ALWAYS need people (parking narc!).
