When I was 16 and had been smoking pot for just a few months I was paranoid that my parents would find out. I was very careful to hide my things and make sure I didn't smell like it when I came home etc.
Then one day my mom is throwing my laundry in the dryer as I walk out the door for school. She hands me the pipe I'd left in my jeans and said "Don't want to forget this" with a smirk on her face. I was in shock the rest of the day.

no, two kinds of people imo get caught. Those who are careless and those who want to get caught.
Sure, the game changes a bit, for instance you might have to be more careful at parties where anybody taking a random picture could *catch* you and have it be on fb/myspace...but that just means you have to take different measures.

I lived with a SXE dude for a while. He was really cool and laid back, and usually didn't give a shit about what people did. But he was goddamn rabid about not having any drugs in the house. Don't blame him really - its his house. But I burned so I didn't listen. I just didn't do it in his house. Worked pretty well.
Until one day me and his brother (who also burned) and this girl were fucking around carrying on in the driveway, and she busts out the pipe and goes "shhhhh! James inside but we can get HIGGGGGGGH" - So we start smoking and a couple bowls later all chilled out and his brother passes me the bowl and I look up and james is right there..... He was fucking pissed. Yelled and shit, "what the fuck man, what the fuck, the one thing I ask you not to do"

caught by parents with pot paraphenellia probably 10 times in my younger days lol... they eventually stopped worrying about it...
when i was about 18 or 19 i lived with this girl in an apartment.. we split up and she moved out and i couldn't afford the place alone anymore, momma came to help me move my crap out of it... she opened a bathroom drawer and found a syringe... yeah, that didn't go over well...

The one night I wasn't partying with my roomies (and bandmates), I got pulled out of bed by a sheriff.
They had all gone down to a show in town, and had got ahold of some really good acid. Six assholes tripping balls came into the house as I was getting ready for bed. I messed with them a bit, then went to my room. About ten minutes later, I heard a scrape on my door, and in walked the sheriff.
Dumbasses had left a car door open, and when the cops showed up to check on it, they smelled the pot they were all smoking. We were all actually really lucky that night, because most times on a night like that there would have been some coke somewhere in that house.
Looking back, it is kinda funny. I'm constantly amazed at the stuff I put up with and did. It was amusing watching them bust their pipes, and the cops were actually pretty cool about it.
Living the rock and roll ain't all it's cracked up to be.
Then there was the time when me and two of those guys went to the bar and got plastered. Buddy got a DUI on the way home, and tossed me his weed right before they put him in cuffs. He still had his pipe in his glove box though, but they just laughed when they found it.
All of this was four years and several lifetimes ago.
