Ok so I work at Circuit City, as some of you may know, and yesterday I was helping a customer when all of a sudden a phone rings. I say "excuse me" and go answer the phone, like I normally do. This lady gets on the phone and is saying something about she is offereing something thru CircuitCity for some reason. (I don't know wtf is going on, thats why I stayed on the phone). Eventually I figure out she's trying to sell me magazines, and she asks for my phone #, so I figure fine I'll give her my phone # then get off the phone and let her try and call me when IM NOT AT WORK AND WITH CUSTOMERS! So I gave her a fake phone #, to my surprise she asks for my address, and I couldn't really say no, I didnt really know what was going on. So I gave her a fake address, when this other lady gets on the phone and starts asking me questions, and eventually I had enough of it and said "No more time, gotta go" and hung up. I had kept my customers waiting for to long.

Now today I get a call from the same lady while Im at work and they want to finish getting my info, and I'm like Im not interested in your magazine (I should have said that yesterday, but I didnt know what was going on till it was to late) and she got all pissed and like well why'd you give us your phone # then.

Basically it was just something weird, but the whole point of this story is that this telemarketer BS has reached a whole new low in my book. CALLING YOU AT WORK?!?!!?!?!?! WTF!!!!!

Is there anyone who doesn't see this as complete bullsh!t?!?!

In our office, we've got several phones who's only use is if the internal phone system dies. Several times a week, each phone will ring in order (they've got sequencial phone numbers). After the first one rings, we have fun making up different names of groups that we're with (ie: 911, Homeland Security, etc). Some of the reactions by the telemarketer are priceless.

This reminds me of the Toner/INK Scammers. You know the guys that call up and want to know the model of your fax/copier. Then send you a junkload of stuff and invoice you.

I work in a state government datacenter with all private VOIP phone system.. yet there is some weird ass glitch who-knows-where and often we get stange phone calls that get routed to our main console operations center phone lines, completely random unrelated stuff. and they are dialing the correct phone number (not ours) and even dial it a couple times in a row and get routed to us.

telemarketing calls are rarer, almost always they are recorded messages. get some survey calls from vendors too

Constantly. I don't want your stinking toners!

Once I did get a $50 check in the mail for taking a 15 minute survey that I basically made stuff for.

I used to work in medical billing and this guy called from some grave company selling plots.

We answer the phone as "NJ Medical center" but he went right into his pitch. After wasting 1 minute of my life I said, sir I don't think you heard me this is the NJ Medical center, and to be specific the morgue. He choked right up and apologized heh before hanging up.
