Ever get a job interview

ever get an interview opportunity for a job that you are not qualified for in any way shape or form ?

I work as an analyst and do a lot of data extraction and report writing...recently I applied for a DBA job and got an interview which is in a couple hours...

Now I am thinking about all the tech questions that will be coming my way and what an ass I am going to make by not knowing any of the tech answers 😀

Just curious if anyone else has had experience with something similar and what the outcome was ? did you get the job ?

The interviewers know what they are doing. As long as you properly stated your qualifications, they believe you can do the job with the background you have and some training.

not true.
some woman wanted to interview me for a teaching position at a tech school. i have no classroom teaching experience at all. not sure what made her think i would be a good teacher

yah but you most likely had all the qualifications, and she most likely knew you didn't have any experience like that before they called you into the interview.
 
Just make sure you know the stuff on your resume. That's all you can do right now.

Truth of the matter is that employers nowadays have big expectations. It really doesn't matter what you know. It matters what they want you to know.
Currently its a skilled persons market out there. If you are right for the job then you should not have a problem getting it. That holds true here in the 'Silicon Valley' area. And if you are missing a skill that the company is looking for, chances are that you won't get a call back.

I went through at least 15 interviews at different companies and got 4 job offers a few weeks ago. God knows that they drilled me like heck on everything.

 
I've never met the qualifications on any job I have ever interviewed for. However, I had the skills to do the jobs in question. Just not the qualifiations.

No I didn't lie on anything for the simple reason that if you get asked about the stuff you put down and can't answer the question...you look like a real ass then.

The stuff I put down was based on what I have been doing for the past year and a half. Writing views, creating reports, writing extracts and some DTS stuff.

No maintenance, monitoring or anything like that with the SQL servers...

So that is what has me a little worried...I just hate getting all built up in my mind that I have a chance only to find out that there was no chance in hell of me ever getting the position...

We will see how it goes...one thing I do hate about interviews is the tough questions that are in my mind no win situations...like tell me about something you don't like about your job...ect.

Trying to be as diplomatic as possible is hard sometimes especially when you are trying to make a negative sound as positive as possible
 
Actually your interviewer could either expect you to learn or he is an idiot. The company I'm currently working for interviewed me and picked me cause of computer skills etc. I ended up doing A LOT of autocad which I did not put in my resume, also, I was not exposed to ladder relay circuits and he expected me to do a project. Not once did they teach me or prep me at all. I was pretty peeved when I tried to do it and got it completely wrong, and when he started lecturing me I said I was never exposed at all to relays, he said I know. GRRR. At least train me if you knew. Idiot.
