Ever flown on the top deck of a 747?

Flying to Barbados tomorrow on Virgin Atlantic Upper Class. Choose the upper deck as the service is supposed to be better (less people) and it's quieter. I'll have to go down the staiors to get to the Bar, but that seems pretty cool, going up and down stairs at 35,000 ft!

Anyone else done the top deck before?

Yep, but it sure wasn't first class!

Flew in the Upper Deck of a Flying Tigers 747 in 1991 on a military charter from CA to AK to ROK. Might have stopped in Japan as well, but I'm not sure.

Packed in like sardines on tiny little seats...14 hours total, I believe. They let us out in Anchorage when it was well below zero out...

Yeah, lounging it, but the Proper Upper Class lounge at Gatwick is being refitted, so the regular lounge is 'all' we have. Was a bit gutted when I heard this, but w/e.

Yeah, on a trip to Australia. Was pretty nice to be able to recline into a bed and sleep comfortably most of the way.

Yep flew top deck in a UA 747, they're only business first seats though on the plane I was on. The nose on the UA planes is best, fully reclining pod things.

I like flying on the top deck. With aircraft like the 777 the economy class peons think they can just push aside the curtain and use our bathroom. You have none of this chicanery whilst lounging on the upper deck.

Yea I flew on the top deck on a flight from LA to Auckland, New Zealand. It was nice. Well as nice as being stuck in a tube over the ocean for 14 hours can be anyway.

Flew Air China on the top deck, but it was nothing to write home about (business class). The revamped UA 777 business class is spectacular though.

As many times as I've flown, and as many international flights I've been on (15+ legs), I've never even been on a 747, let alone in the top deck. I am definitely jealous. Is the plane that much bigger in feel than say, a regular 2/6/2 Airbus or Boeing?

Yeah,
first class from Detroit to Amsterdam. To be honest, I couldn't really tell the difference between lower deck and upper deck as far as accommodations go. First class came in really handy, since we got stuck for 4 hours on the runway.

people can fidget with their private parts in the upper deck, it is not allowed on the lower portion.

Njoy!

I think I'm going to do a tour of the cheap seats to 'prevent DVT' and sneer at them, then go back upstairs for a back rub and some Cognac.

Upper class and Gatwick in the same sentence...?
