---- Ever driven a 2000 Maxima..... What is this hiccup ?

thatsright

Test drove a nice 2000 Maxima SE today, loaded man, loaded. Only 78k miles. Well, I was driving down a street and had some clearance, so I put it on full blast V6.

While doing so, I noticed a sort of a hiccup on the engine. Sort of like it couldn't go any further. It sort of 'leaned' back and forth really quick. The whole time I accelerated I did so in 'D.' There is D1 & D2 but not sure what those are for?

A problem with the engine? I did it again, and it seemed like the engine couldn't kick out anymore HP when it was 'hiccupping.' Do I need to hit it full throttle in D1 or D2??

Can anyone help?

You, along with the three dudes that test drove the car last week, broke the car in the past few days. Be ashamed.

No, NO ,noooooo

It speed up down the street quickly, but then when I opened up the throttle even more, the engine sort of shook back and forth. Like it was starved for gas? It didn't do so in a violent way. Just seemed like it was almost there, but couldn't quite get any more HP and would rock back and forth.

Never had this problem. I am just guessing but it could have to do with a number of things but I dont think transmission is one of them. I would say the previous owner never did a 30k 60k tune-up. The engine on these cars is built strong. Transmission wont go out at 78k (shouldnt). More than likely something else.

You probably just hit the redline.

(Sorry, I'm new to V6 stuff)

So If I build up to it on the highway I can do V6 at high hp, ok. But to try and JACK UP the V6 in a short distance, a no go??

Is there something else that could be causing this engine to 'sputter' and kick back at me?

Thanks

D1 is first gear only. D2 is 2nd gear only. How the hell do you not know that?

An automatic would not be bouncing off the rev limiter in Drive ("D"), so there is either a problem with the engine or with the shift valves or solenoids in transmission.
