Ever do something nice just to be nice?

Out to eat tonight with the wife I for some reason had the urge to pay for the elderly couples meal ho was sat before us so I did. It was a typical elderly couple you'd see at any restaurant but for some reason I felt they'd really be helped by it more than most.
After I did it I felt really good except for the fact the waitress told the couple I paid which kinda upset me, I hate attention like that. I give money away to the typical charities and what not but I never feel anything after doing so, except maybe a little bit poorer.

Ever do anything like this? If not you need to.

It's an extremely nice thing to do, but if it were my meal you paid for the worry you would cause me over whether or not I looked like a bum would easily outweigh the price of a meal. People have pride, especially old people. Usually their pride is more valuable to them than their money.

I've changed tires for stranded little old ladies and once gave away a winter coat to a homeless guy. Never bought anyone a meal.

I worked a help desk for a college that provides free support to graduate students. This one paraplegic phd student had to pay this dude $50 to bring her desktop to us for help. This pissed me off & I started bringing back and for to her for free.

I helped someone bring a bag of dog food in their house a week or so ago. They were halfway in a parking space in the snow and I asked if they needed help, like a push or something, then they asked for help with the dog food. Not really what I had in mind but whatever, I did get to pocket some jewelery on my way out of the house

The other day I was at Jack in the Box and they denied this kid a water cup. I felt bad for him and I thought it would be illegal to charge $1.49 for a water cup so I bought him a medium pop.

I don't get why you would pay for their meal. They were there to begin with, which means that they can obviously afford it. I think I would be insulted if a stranger felt the need to pay for my meal.

i gave my wii to a kid that wanted it.
i typically let people cut in front of me at the grocery line if they only have a few items.
i'll pick up the tab (groceries, restaurant) for whoever genuinely forgot their purse/wallet (as long as its under 100 bucks)
i have a ds lite that i rarely play, may just give that to some kid that really deserves it

That's nice. One time I picked up some hitchhikers and got to talking with them. I realized they were having a hard time and handed them 50 bucks. I assured them they needed it more than I did.

When I worked at the auto parts store, this couple came in, maybe 18 - 22ish. They rolled up in this wreck of an 80s V8 Camaro, which looked like it had been beat to hell and back, and was loud as hell (not the good kind of loud). I saw that the exhaust pipe was hanging weird under the car (obviously the source of the noise). They asked about the price of a replacement exhaust system. I priced everything out, using the cheapest parts (their request) and it came to nearly $150 for everything. They both kind of sighed, and looked at each other...they obviously didn't have $1 between them . The guy said that that's what they'd heard from all the other stores in the area, too.

Well, as luck would have it, I had just replaced the fully functional, nearly rust-free exhaust on my Trans Am the week before with an aftermarket system to give it a bit of a HP boost and nicer tone. It only had probably 20k miles on it when I replaced it, so there was lots of life left...and I knew it would bolt straight onto their car. So, I told them I'd see what I could dig up, and to come back tomorrow, and they said they would. The next day, I brought in my old exhaust and gave it to them when they showed up. I think it made their day - the guy told me he had been driving like that for a while because he couldn't afford to repair it, and had gotten a noise ticket for it.

My wife used to get Atlanta Braves tickets through her job that were some of the best seats in the house , like 50- 75.00 apiece. I sat amongst the players wives and families about 5 rows behind home plate. I would always get the tix on short notice i.e. "Come and get the tix, they are available" I would get four tickets but only use two. I liked to stand around the ticket booth and wait for a father or mother bringing their kid to the game and give them the tickets. It was so cool to see the look on junior's face when he and dad came down to the seats. So many times I heard a dad say that this was his son's first game and they just loved the seats. I did this on roughly a weekly basis for about three years.

You betcha. As big of an asshole as I am I still do occasional acts of random kindness for people I've never seen before.

I used to always stop to help women who were broke down on the side of the road...no, not because I was hoping for "benefits," but rather because (1), it's the way I was raised, and (2) if it were my wife who was stranded, I'd like some nice guy to stop and render assistance.

I often buy a beer (or even pay for the meal) of some unknown service person who's in uniform at a restaurant.
