Ever deposit checks at ATM's?

How soon is the money credited to your account? How reliable is this? Do you trust this method of depositing money into your account?

My company switched banks and until they get direct deposit back up I've had my last three checks just lying around. I wanted to cash them today but I'm totally foreign to banking... I didn't know all the banks closed so early on saturday.

i do it every so often....it usually deposited the next business day. i never would do it on a fri/sat/sun though

I deposited a check in my bank's ATM a few nights ago and as soon as I got home (about 5 minutes), the funds were already available on the online account manager.

I do it all the time. Beats waiting in line inside. I don't know exactly how fast it is, but it's always there the next day.

Yes

How long it takes to actually hit your account is somewhat dependent on your bank.

For some banks, i believe there's a few days delay even if you go inside to deposit it at the teller.

It usually take a few days when i use the ATM, which is fine with me.

Word.

I do it several times a year with company expense reimbursement checks, but I've never paid attention to how long it takes them to clear. It should just be 1 extra business day beyond doing it in person as long as the ATM is one of your bank's not some other chain.

It's the only way I deposit checks, much faster than waiting in line on most days and I don't have to fill out a deposit slip or remember my account number. I don't know what's faster but I can deposit a check in the ATM at 2am or on Sundays so I can get the deposit to the bank earlier.

I only deposit checks at ATMs. It takes much less time and hassle than using a ATP (actual teller person). I'll even go into the bank lobby, fill out the ATM envelope, and use the ATM in the bank rather than talk to a teller. I don't need to show ID (why one has to do this to deposit funds is beyond me) or fill out a full deposit slip when using the ATM. The deposit shows right away in my account but is tagged "pending". Checks deposited at the ATM clear no faster or slower than those handed to a teller as the teller just sticks checks in a pile to be processed, the same pile where the ATM deposits land.

I main deposit checks at ATMs. Only at ATMs of my bank though.
Its probably been a year or 2 since I've been inside a bank.

Never done it, takes too long imho and I don't trust it really.

😕 It takes like 10 seconds. Ive done it my whole life and never had a problem with it. Usually half the funds deposited are avaliable immediatly, and the rest is avaliable within 24 hours.

I was shocked the other when I went to deposit 3 checks at BOA.. They have a new ATM machine that you feed the checks through, they have INCREDIBLE OCR software that scans the check and displays the total, even if it is handwritten in. I did that for three checks and at the end of the transaction the ATM printed a page with scanned images of the checks and the total. Technology is getting crazy.

I always use an ATM to make my deposits. With my bank (a smaller local bank) I can immediatly withdraw the funds if I desire.

I have deposited checks at ATMs for over 10 yrs and never, ever had a problem or mix up.

Matter of fact, I have only set foot in my bank less than 5 times that I can remember.

I think I saw their ad for that tech year(s) ago. Glad to see they really worked on it.

I only deposit at ATM. Too much hassle otherwise. It will usually take $100 or $200 immediately and the rest when someone handles the check.

Checks in an ATM are safer than cash, in my opinion. I deposit checks that way all the time, but cash only goes to an ATP (I like that acronym).

I also only use a handful of ATMs. I know it's paranoid, but by using select ATMs, I know what they look like and if someone tried to attach a card scanner to steal debit card info, I'd notice it.

My Credit Union's ATMs clear checks $250 or less instantly at the ATM; the amount higher than that gets a standard hold on it.

Same here. Do it all the time.

Cool thing about my bank is your receipt gives you a image scan of the check. You can also immediately see the scan with online banking. As far as time, same as with a teller.

I've never noticed a difference in terms of how long it takes for the money to get applied to my account between depositing the ATM versus depositing at the bank teller.
