So I bought a video card 2 weeks ago, as I brought the usps box in I could smell the slight reak of old cigarette smoke (you know the type thats baked in and not fresh).

I couldnt wait to unpack it and throw all the materials out (the little packing peanuts were like stinks bombs of smoke).. so I threw it all out and came back in and figured the smell would dissapate in an hour or 2.

Fast forward to next morning and the smell was still there, I picked up the vid card and sniffed it.. and I was shocked that it wreaked of smoke.. what the deuce man.. I dont get it..how much do you have to smoke to make a PCB board smell...

Any of you ever experienced this?

taht has happened to me many times with used stuff. computer parts smell like smoke because they have intake fans that bring the smoke in.

There's some more for you.

Edit: further to that, it's what made my friend give up smoking. Her co-worker had passed on a bag of clothes she never wore. When my friend opened it, she was overcome by the stench of smoke. She said it was so disgusting she never picked up another cigarette. It's been 2 years since that day :)

Yup. Bought a PSU and when the box arrived it reaked of smoke. Opened it up and the smell was worse. I thought maybe the PSU was fried but it worked and the smell was definitely cig smoke.

I have refused to test drive some used cars that were owned by smokers. Guess I never thought about used computer parts.

You sure it's "cigarette smoke". New Electronics often has a burnt smell, but it's not caused by cigarettes/tobacco.

I've noticed that some seller actually mention that they live in a smoke-free house... and now it makes sense why

Yea, a remote control from a home theater in a box I bought. Must have been a return from a smokers home.
