Ever bought a Winchester with Mobo that wont support it?

I bought the MSI VIA KT800 pro 939 mobo and the bios that will be loaded on it does no support 90nm winchesters, which I bought also. The correct BIOS is downloadable and must be flashed onto the board.

Sooo, I keep reading people saying "yeah didnt work with my cpu had to update BIOS" but what they dont tell me is did the board actually bootup but what just unstable, thusly meaning the BIOS needs to be flashed, or does a board not even bootup period?

Anyone know what will happen when I try the two?

The PC will not post if you don't have a current bios that supports 90mm CPU's eg older bioses for this board will not Post w/ a Winchester core A64

It seems from what I read that it will post enough to boot from floppy and do bios flash.

I asked at MSI forums anyways, they should know for sure. This thread is closed!

I was also pondering about this and the ASUS A8V board... IT HAS to be compatible in some way.
