Ever been to the Philippines?

Yup, went for a medical mission in January. After you go there you'll realize that you take everything here for granted.

 Sure 2-3 times in the mid to late 80's. Enjoyed myself! Had some clothes custom tailored....as well as participated in the typical tourist stuff for that decade....

Yes, it was hot and humid.

My last visit was about 4 years ago. I'll never forget the all the billboards that said, "Jail the user, Kill the Pusher!"

But the one that really grabbed my attention was the billboard that said, "Kill the pedophiles!"

No, I'm not kidding.

Born and raised there for 10yrs. Great place to live if you're out of the city, but you may not have the same modern stuff that you're used to.

Ya, I think the penalty for drug use is death over there. I was in Manila and some of the surrounding provinces. Places like Makati are just like the US, but when you get outside of the Americanized parts of the city things are so underdeveloped. The dollar goes far, and if you want to experience luxury for less than $100 a night stay at the ShangriLa hotel in Makati... the most impressive hotel I've ever stayed at.

Youll find most of the same restaurants you see here in their gigantic malls... we go there every other year. Personally... i wouldnt stay too long in the city... traffic sucks... its hot... just go to Boracay. 🙂

What did you think of the food?

I am considering going at the end of this year.

Eat at Jollibee, it's their version of McDonalds. Chicken Joy + Spaghetti = WIN!!

Last time I went was about 10 years ago. Next time I have a big break/vacation, I'm gonna go. I'm Filipino, so yeaaahhhhh. 😀

IMO, just like McDonald's over here, Jollibee sux. The spaghetti is over-sauced but the hot dogs in it are good. Chow King is a decent place to eat. Also, Max's for sit down is money well spent.

I spent a good summer in Cebu just absorbing the atmosphere. Definitely a place of really nice people and really hot women.

So how pricey is Boracay and what time of the year is the best to go? I've heard that it is not as "undiscovered" as it used to be.

Red Horse!!

What is Red Horse?

A drink. My wife was born there. Small world eh? Never been there, but with her description of it unless it's changed alot don't know if it would be worth it to visit...Think no electricity and you have to go to a market everyday to get food, plus luxories are few and far between outside of the major cities.

I lived there for 5 years in the eighties, I was on Clark Air Base and once you left the area around the base it was like going back in time. Back when I was there you had to worry about the NPA(National Peoples Army) But they usually left you alone. Nowadays there are Muslim Extremist to worry about but I think they are mostly in the soutern part of the Country. All in all I'd say it is one of nicest places to go they have some of the nicest Beaches I have ever seen The people are mostly nice and is some really nice WW2 stuff to see if you want. But it is an easy place to get yourself in trouble if you don't watch out. 😀
