Yep - my mom is from Wales. Doesn't speak Welsh, but can promounce it - man it's an unusual language. Trying to explain how to say the Welsh "Ll" is mighty hard.

Oh yeah, we're pretty weird here in New England too.

The "w" is roughly the English "oo" sound, right? And the "ll" has no real English equivalent IIRC. I know pretty much nothing about Welsh, I'm just remembering bits and pieces from Susan Cooper's "The Dark Is Rising" series of books, a couple of which were set in Wales.

Yes on the w, and the best way to describe ll is "thl", but kind of hissing your breath around the tongue at the same time. This link has a good breakdown on pronouncing Welsh, along with a pretty good phonetic pronunciation of the full name of Llanfair PG and what it means in English. Makes a great tongue twister.
