Ever been patted down at BestBuy?

I ordered 2 items online, and went to BB to pick them up. As I was leaving the store, I handed the reciept to the kid at the door who then checked the bag for the items listed. Standard procedure, I assume. As he handed the reciept to me, he was looking in the other direction so, politely, I ask him "All set?". He turns around, and smiles and says, "Yeah, I just need to check your pockets." I thought he was kidding, of course. He then pats the pocket of my leather jacket nearest to him. I smile a "haha funny" smile and start walking out the door. He then reaches across my body to check the other pocket as I am walking.

A few feet outside the door, I'm thinking WTF just happened? Was he seriously checking for theft or just being inappropriately friendly/funny? Thank God I was distracted and in a rush. I don't normally take kindly to such behavior and thought about going right back in and raising some havoc. But, I had an appointment to get to.

I'm assuming this has never happened to anyone, right?

I smell Zim Hosein!

I would tell the dipshit to go fvck himself and call the cops. In the meantime i would raise hell in the store.

I wouldnt worry about it since making a big stink about it isnt really what I do, I'd just say no fvcking way ur touching me and just walk out, let them try to call the cops on me.

Please understand, I dwarfed over the kid so I felt no physical threat. Seriously, he was like a little kid of man.

The only thing I can possibly fathom was this: while standing at the CS counter to pick up my goodies, I did check and rearrange my pockets. Something like realizing that the cell phone and keys were in the same pocket so I moved one out into another pocket. Would this look suspicious? I doubt it.

As for my lack of a response, I was rushing to get to a job so I didn't have the time or inclination to process a "weird" experience. Pisses me off more right now, now that the day is over...

i'm surprised you even stopped to show the receipt. you don't have to. once you pay for your items they're -yours- and they don't have a right to look in -your- bag. they're not cops. it's the equivalent of someone on the street asking to look in your bag. whenever someone asks to see my receipt i say, "no thank you" and keep walking.

not everything in the store is tagged.

The only place i think that i will let check my merchandise is costco, because it is a part of their policy for becomming a member, and they actually have saved me money a couple of times because i was overcharged (believe it or not).
but bestbuy, if they ask to see my reciept, i ask to see their warrant for a search.

I would've punched him in the face and called self defense.

Checking the bags is one thing, touching me is a whole other issue.

i just joined bestbuy's geek squad and the first thing they taught us is that best buy has a strict policy of noninterference. even if i see someone take a dvd and slip it into their jacket, i'm just supposed to approach them and ask them if they found everything all right. even loss prevention cannot stop or accuse them. in fact, if you chase after a shoplifter, you will be fired. so i doubt that was a store policy. were you wearing clothing that was similar to that of a best buy employee? during the cold season, if we're wearing a jacket or holding a bag, we have to show the bag / jacket to loss prevention before we leave or we will be fired.

Complying with stupid anti-theft policies doesn't bother me. The touching does.

Know that I think about it, I bet the whole thing is on tape...

I'm gonna have fun with this one.

Khaki pants, black polo, black leather jacket & boots. They wear khakis and polos. Have I become...one of them? Seriously, though, is it possible he thought I was an employee?

I've never been patted down at BB, nor have I seen anyone else be subjected to that. Something is seriously amiss there. :|

fvcking best buy..... i really hate that company. I think the feeling is mutual though, they would classify me as a "bad customer."
