Ever act dumb when buying a PC to see if they would try to work you?

Yes, and in the end, I got two brand new laptops for ~1100 (after rebates)

Spent an hour and a half "trying" to buy a laptop at staples and "misunderstanding" their advertising.

Why would you do this?

Yea, i dont get it either.

I'll sell PC's at CC and i put people into what they need, not what makes the company the most $$ (since there is virtually no markup on any of them, it dosent matter).

What i meant was go in and be act like you dont know anything about PCs...then see if their salespeople would try to sell you crap due to your lack of knowledge. just for fun i would do it but i havent yet.

I went in once shopping for a video card, and I was told that a 256MB FX 5200 would be faster than a 9800.

Caveat emptor.

That is truly incorrect. Diamond viper TNT2 ultra smokes them both

unless the FX is a jetway....

I never really went out of my way to act dumb... but I was computer shopping with a relative and the dude on the floor at Best Buy was trying to get us all excited about an Athlon 64 and said I could put 1 "turtabit" of RAM in it... "and then, who needs a hard drive?" He obviously just worked there and wasn't a computer enthusiast... I just thought it was a little humorous.

Just show them some skin. 😉

A friend of mine got kicked out for that... apparently they don't like you taking pictures of skin with their display cameras very much.

I once saw at Best Buy a worker helping a guy who had asked if they had touch screen monitors. The sales guy starts poking some LCD monitors saying "see, it's a touchscreen" reffering to the distortions caused by poking them. He told the guy that all LCD monitirs can be used as touch screens.

way before i bought and built my own computer and i called a local mom&pop store and asked a few questions. they were pretty good and honest about their answers.

then i went back last year to get a fan for my slk800. the guy told me the slk800 was a piece of crap and i needed to buy a tornado for my computer. ewww.
