i downloaded the patch from lvllord.de to try and remove the event id 4226 error message. And it did remove it. But the problem is still there.

If i allow more then about 60 connections my internet connection basically dies. Anything i am downloading stops, cant check email, pull up web pages etc etc.

if i close my torrent client, everything comes back. I've tried using the patch from that site and increasing things to 100 in the patch but it makes no difference.

Anyone know whats going on here? Is the patch on that site not working anymore?

I'm using XP pro 2 SP2
azureus 2.3.0.4
java 1.5.0_03-b07

I've also tried doing this without my router, connecting directly to the cable modem (motorola sb4200) but same problem.

The only thing the patch from that site seems to do is just prevent any entry in the event log.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can increase my connection limit?

thanks

I assume that eventid is telling you that your bt client is making too many outbound connections and once? If so, ignore it. At worst it'll delay some connections and your torrent will take a little bit longer to get up to speed, it'll still work just fine. Patching a Windows driver from some untrustable 3rd party source to work around a problem that doesn't exist, just seems dumb.

As for why your connection is dying, that's hard to say. Obviously it's not related to the handshake throttling in SP2, if it's only your machine that has problems when you have a torrent going I would first guess crappy NIC hardware or drivers.

i dont think its hardware related since it only happens when the 4226 event shows up. Although it seems as though it isnt behaving the way it should. Its supposed to delay new connections past a certain point. Which i assume means existing connections shouldnt be affected. But when this thing kicks in, my torrent goes doesn to zero both in upload and download. And it does seem as though after a few seconds it starts to come back....but then it dies again after a few seconds.

As for the patch... i agree with you. But i did some googling and a lot of places reference that patch. So i'm pretty sure its not some trojan or anything. Did a virus scan on it anyhow to check.

It's only supposed to delay connections from that single process, not the whole machine. And no, existing connections should work fine.

So? Perhaps the payload just hasn't been discovered yet. It's a kernel level driver, once it's installed it can do anything it wants on your machine.

well then its definitely not behaving the way it should. Since not only does all the existing data transfer die, but if i open my email program i cant connect to the mail server either. Not until i close azureus or at least bump off a few connections in it.

As for the patch ... i think anything thats been around that long with that many people pointing to it is probably safe. I considered the risk to be small imho.
