Event Horizon & Sphere.... very similar

just saw sphere last night, it reminded me of event horizon alot. But i think that event horizon is better because the story is more in depth and is much darker than the sphere. what i don't understand about the sphere is how did the researchers get inside the spaceship? They said the outter shell of the vessel is made out of super tough alumium, but they were able to chip it with a chisel. Then the next thing you know, the door just opened by itself.

Maybe the chisel was BETTER than the aluminum, huh! Ever thought about that, huh?? punk!

oh and event horizon is a good movie. freaky as hell.

I don't think they were similar at all. For one, Event Horizon was an awesome movie whereas Sphere was just okay. 😉 I thought of Event Horizon as a horror movie in a sci-fi setting and Sphere as just a sci-fi movie.

hate to break it to you but they are compleatly different. in EH the dude invens a gravity drive that is supposed to travel through black holes to far parts of the universe. but instead it goes to hell.

in sphere teh human race as a whole is presented with a technology from teh future that gives them limitless power. but after this power is tested on a select few super smart people. and when they fail to controll it. they decide to keep it hidden from the world by forgetting it all ever happened

event horizon is great mostly because it's not a too farfeched scifi seting, based on things that we thing could be possible in the future, and mixem them up with philosophy(hell beyound the known universe thing). It's scary because it's kinda realistic, well done and generally it's a good looking movie as far as effects go. But shpere is just different, et's kinda creepy but once you get to the end, the movie will never scare you again, and even the first time you watch it it's not that great. I liked both, but event horizon alot more.

i believe the storyline is pretty similar.

They found an abandoned spacecraft.
The old crew killed themselves because of what the ship is carrying.
Both the sphere and the event horizon thing attacks you with your greatest fear.
Both the ships were destoryed at the end of the movie.

But that's a shallow description of the storyline. If you fill it out some more, the differences between the movies become apparent.

wrong.

in event Horizion. ship warps into Hell the get killed there. hell takes over teh ship and send it back for others to find. Kills peopel using hells will along with fears

In Sphere they found a Space Craft that came back through time. crew didnt kill themselfs they killed each other. The "Sphere" dosnt "Attack" anyone it just manafest the thoughts of ones mind. weather good or bad.

ship in teh end of sphere was not destroied. they just forgot about teh sphere and sent it back into space. to be found again laer.

and for all of you that bash sphere the movie. i agree it sucked royal ass. but read teh book its amazing

They are similar. Similar != same. One of the biggest differences were the endings. Event Horizon's was good, the ending to Sphere was assinine.

Well as with all of Michael Chriton's books, the movie ends up being a BIG disapointment

I've never seen the movie Sphere but the book is incredible. And I have to disagree with you, JeffreyLebowski. Jurassic Park was an awesome movie. The two sequels sucked ass though.

I didn't think they were all that similar, tho I liked both movies. EH was a scary shock value horror film with some interesting sci-fi concepts.. Sphere was just another interesting sci-fi flick.. one which comes from a far superior novel. 🙂
